Laura Robson v Kaia Kanepi Match Preview, Monday 1st July 2013

Laura Robson struggled with nerves in the first set against Marina Erakovic on Saturday losing it 6 games to 1, but when the young Brit had settled her nerves and adjusted to Erakovic’s unpredictable serve she soon pulled the game back with an impressive two sets winning 7-5 and 6-3. Monday’s game will prove to be another tough match for Laura but she has every chance of progressing past Kanepi if she can control her nerves from the get go.

Kanepi has not played at Wimbledon since 2011 where she was beaten in the 1st round, but since then has enjoyed some of her Tennis getting to the quarter final of the French Open last year but then exiting this year round in the 2nd round. Kaia Kanepi did manage to reach the next stage in 2010 being the furthest she has gone in Wimbledon, which shows better results than Robson but then the age difference shows with Kaia playing over 230 more games than the 19 year old Laura.

Who Has The Advantage ?

The advantage of the head to head statistics are in favour of Laura Robson here with an extra win over Kaia Kanepi results, but as these two have not met in a singles match you can only trust on the players current form. With Laura on home turf and with the crowd behind her you would have to give the young 19 year old the advantage. If she can just get past her beginning nerves she could quiet comfortably come out on top.

With Kaia Kanepi already claiming a scalp in 7th seed Angelique Kerber, knocking her out after 3 exciting sets it will indeed prove a tough battle for Robson, and she will need to be on top form come Monday if she will want to get past Kanepi who is favorite with the bookmakers for this match.

But with Robson’s win over 10th seed Maria Kirilenko, it was indeed impressive with an incredible straight set demolition which gave the crowd chills and a solid belief we could finally see a female British winner of Wimbledon. This hasn’t happened since Virginia Wade won back in 1977 and with these facts people are now starting to believe this could be our year with other Brit, Andy Murray also on course for a possible final clash now other tournament favorites are out.

Laura Robson v Kaia Kanepi Match Betting Predictions, Tips and Picks

I’m going with my heart here and with the fact the crowd will be right behind her I feel Robson could win here in 3 sets and book her place in the quarter finals against current seed and Wimbledon Champion Serena Williams.

Robson has been very impressive and playing the tennis of her life, and if she can grow past the nerves as early as possible I think it could be possible.
