Sky Bet - £30 Free Bets for New Customers Registering an AccountGrade 1 Horse Racing action on Boxing Day comes from Kempton Race Course with the feature race of the day The King George VI Chase.

The whole race can be seen Live on Channel 4 High Definition, with a scheduled 15:10pm (GMT) start which is run over 3 miles and has 9 declared runners all vying for the £113,00 Winners Prize Fund.

The King George VI Chase is now the second most prestigious chase in England, surpassed only by the Cheltenham Gold Cup. Thirteen horses have won it more than once but two of the most well known winners over recent years have been Desert Orchid who has won it four times and Kauto Star who won it five times and the most successful jockey in the race has been Ruby Walsh who has managed five victories.

Boxing Day’s Race was in danger of being called off due to the heavy persistent rain most of the United Kingdom has suffered over the last few days leading up to the race, but course officials have announced a statement on Christmas Eve saying that they are confident that the race will go ahead, much to the delight of all horse racing fans across the country.

2013 King George VI Chase Race Preview, Thursday 26th December 2013

The 2012 King George VI race last year was won by Long Run who was ridden by Sam Waley-Cohen and trained by Nicky Henderson and this was the trainer and jockey’s second victory in the race in the last two years and with Long Run also involved this year he obviously has to be down as one to watch, despite being as big as 10/1 with Bet365 (£200 Free Bets for New Customers) to make it win number two on the bounce.

The online bookmakers currently have the Joe Tizzard trained Cue Card and David Pipe’s trained Dynaste the joint favourites to win this years race at a current best price of 7/2 with BetVictor (£25 Free Bets for New Customers) and with both horses having had a hatrick of victories in their last five races it really is anyone’s guess which one of these will come home in front on Boxing Day.

Paul Nicholls is the most successfull trainer in this race over the years having been responsible for ‘five winners’ and his Al Ferof currently a best price of 4/1 with Paddy Power (£50 Free Bets for New Customers) who has won his last two races in succession will obviously attract plenty of support and has a big chance.

Silviniaco Conti 9/2 with Betfred (£25 Free Bets for New Customers) also trained by Paul Nicholls is another one to consider as although this horse was beaten by Cue Card in the Betfair Chase in November, connections are confident that run will have brought him on for this race, especially with the testing conditions bang in his favour.

2013 King George VI Chase Race Betting Preview

A very exciting race in prospect and with the testing conditions it does look highly unlikely that all of these horses will finish this race on Thursday afternoon, so ensure you choose a horse that will have no problem with the going and has proven stanima over the gruelling 3 miles distance.

LONG RUN fits this criteria having won this race twice in the last three years and for me he is my clear pick for an Each Way Saver at a big price as not only does he know his way around this course, he seems to save his best performances for this race and in my opinion could easily cause a bit of a shock victory on Thursday afternoon as not many people believe this horse still has what it takes to win a race like this.

However, with CUE CARD having beaten Long Run by an impressive 21 lengths at at Haydock in the Betfair Chase last month it’s difficult to ignore his chances here in providing trainer Joe Tizzard his first ever winner of the race and at his current odds of 7/2 with BetVictor (£25 Free Bets for New Customers) this does look fantastic value considering his demolition of his rivals last month and with the soft ground conditions also in his favour, CUE CARD looks the one to be on here for the win.
