2013 British Open Preview, Thursday 18th July 2013

The majority of the United Kingdom is currently enjoying a rare summer heatwave and although the conditions at the Muirfield Golf Course in Gullane aren’t reaching the kind of temperatures that other parts of the United Kingdom are getting, the conditions couldn’t be more perfect for the players and as such we should see some very low scoring rounds as a result.

The Main Contenders

1. Ernie Els :- Current defending British Open Champion and arrives here in very good form having won the BMW International Open. Won the previous British Open when it was played at Muirfield back in 2002 and has all the attributes to go close again. (33/1 Current Best Price to Win with Coral – £50 Free Bets for New Customers).

2. Tiger Woods :- Has won the British Open Championship on three different occasions and finished tied for third last year and has recorded an impressive 4 victories so far in 2013, if he can control his driver over these next four days then obviously has a big chance of making it Open Championship win number 4. (10/1 Current Best Price to Win with Paddy Power – £50 Free Bets for New Customers).

3. Justin Rose :- Caused a major shock by becoming the first English Player to win the US Open Championship since Tony Jacklin back in 1970 and arrives fully rested having only competed in one tournament since that glorious victory. Has the game to be involved in the final day, but his record around Muirfield isn’t the best unfortunately. (20/1 Current Best Price to Win with Bet365 – £200 Free Bets for New Customers).

4. Phil Mickleson :- Tied for second place in the 2011 British Open and arrives here having won the Waste Management Phoenix Open back in March and victory at Castle Stuart last Sunday, has had six top three finishes in his last thirteen starts and is a major contender to win this tournament. (20/1 Current Best Price to Win with Betfred – £50 Free Bets for New Customers).

5. Brandt Snededker :- Has had a productive season having finished tied for 6th place at this year’s Masters, tied for 8th at The Players Championship and Tied for 17 place at the U.S. Open. Played some great golf in the 2012 British Open eventually finishing tied for third place and with conditions in his favor has a great chance of going close. (40/1 Current Best Price to Win with Bet365 – £200 Free Bets for New Customers).

Others to Consider

1. Adam Scott :- Did seem to lose his bottle a bit on the final day last year of this tournament held at Royal Lytham & St. Annes when bogeyed the last four holes, so will certainly be out for some sort of redemption this week. Has had a quiet year by his standards, but did win this year’s Masters and certainly not without a chance if keeping his head. (21/1 Current Best Price to Win with Paddy Power – £50 Free Bets for New Customers).

2. Henrik Stenson :- Has a very good record in this tournament having finished Tied for 3rd place twice in his last four starts. Arrives here in good form having Tied for 3rd at Castle Stuart last Sunday and will certainly be one on my short list of Each/Way fancies. (46/1 Current Best Price with Stan James – £10 Free Bets for New Customers).

3. Lee Westwood :- Has had Three top-four finishes in this tournament and is having a pretty decent season having finished tied for 8th place in the Masters and Players Championships. Has an all round game to be involved on the final day and is overdue a big win, could this be his week ? (30/1 Current Best Price with Coral – £50 Free Bets for New Customers).

The 2013 British Open Tips & Predictions

Plenty in with major chances here and with conditions forecast to be excellent through-out the whole four days we should see some low scoring rounds and even a possibility of a ‘Hole in One’ as with the British Open having been played three previous times at Muirfield Golf Course, two of those did produce hole in one’s and this looks to be good value to get on.
