2013 US PGA Preview, Thursday 8th August 2013

The last of the four majors and one that every professional player in the game is desperate to win and after recent events that took place in the WGC-Bridgestone Invitational last weekend, everyone and their mum seems to be rushing out and placing their life savings on Tiger Woods to win.

Unfortunately for Tiger, he is yet to win a major since 2008 and we all saw how the pressure got to him on the final couple of days during the British Open and for me at his current price, you would have to be stark raving mad to even consider parting with your hard earned cash on a player that just doesn’t seem to be anywhere near his best in major tournaments.

The Main Contenders

1. Adam Scott :- Won the Masters this season and had a very respectable 3rd place finish at the British Open. Could only manage 14th place in the recent WGC-Bridgestone Invitational but certainly has the game to be involved in the final day and is a great value bet at his current odds . (18/1 Current Best Price to Win with Sky Bet – £10 Free Bets No Deposit Required for New Customers).

2. Tiger Woods :- With his comfortable victory in the WGC-Bridgestone Invitational last week you can’t rule him out of winning this tournament, but as mentioned earlier, Tiger just doesn’t seem to be able to control his emotions when playing in the majors and at his very short price he doesn’t look any kind of value for the sensible punters. (9/2 Current Best Price to Win with Paddy Power – £50 Free Bets for New Customers).

3. Justin Rose :- Had a complete nightmare during the British Open and Muirfield and didn’t seem to be his usual self from what I witnessed, so if you can forgive him that performance then he could turn out to be the dark horse of this tournament and well worth an each way punt at his generous odds. (28/1 Current Best Price to Win with Bet365 – £200 Free Bets for New Customers).

4. Phil Mickleson :- Was extremely impressive during the British Open but this course will make him use his driver which he didn’t use once at Muirfield and I just can’t see him being able to keep up with a few of the others over the four days. (16/1 Current Best Price to Win with Coral – £50 Free Bets for New Customers).

5. Brandt Snededker :- Done ok in the masters where tied for 6th place also done ok when tied for 8th at The Players Championship and Tied for 17 place at the U.S. Open. Done ok also in the British Open finishing tied for 11th place and having won at Pebble Beach this season is certainly a player that can win this tournament and definitely worth being on each way at decent looking odds. (28/1 Current Best Price to Win with Bet365 – £200 Free Bets for New Customers).

Others to Consider

1. Henrik Stenson :- Was very close to winning the British Open and is a player that just seems to produce great golf when it’s most needed. Was runner up again last week in the WGC-Bridgestone Invitational and I for one will definitely be on him for this tournament at what is great value. (25/1 Current Best Price with Sky Bet – £10 Free Bets |No Deposit Required for New Customers).

2. Lee Westwood :- Has tied for 8th place in both the Masters and Players Championships this season and then tied for 3rd place at the British Open. Does seem to choke under pressure though which is probably why he is yet to win a major tournament but if he can for once keep his nerve then he has a huge chance of winning at a decent price. (33/1 Current Best Price with Coral – £50 Free Bets for New Customers).

3. Chris Wood :- Has had huge problems with his back and spine in recent years, but showed everyone during the WGC-Bridgestone Invitational that he can mix it up with the very best when finishing 7th and seems to really be enjoying his golf at the moment and for me is a very live outsider that could pull off a major shock over the next four days. (200/1 Current Best Price with Sky Bet – £10 Free Bets No Deposit Required for New Customers).
