The 2016 Masters Tournament Preview

This tournament is the one every golfer that has ever picked up a golf club dearly wants to win and as such many agree that there is no better golf tournament of the season than the Masters. Currently there are three big names in the world of golf and they are none other than Jordan Speith, Jason Day and Rory Mcllroy and as you can imagine these three players currently lead the way as the hot favourites to win this years tournament.

However, although Jordan Speith completely blew away his opposition in this tournament last year only one man in history has gone on to defend his Masters title at the first time of asking and at still a young age and not really having played that well in the lead up to this huge tournament I just tend to think that we will definitely see a new winner this year.

The Augusta National course does favour the long hitters in the game and so it could be worth taking a look at this season’s top long drivers. Another main feature of Augusta is accuracy as we have all seen over the years that a club too long or short can make the difference of winning this tournament and not and so it could also be worth taking a look at this season top FIR and GIR leaders as it’s all very well to hit those monster long shots, but accuracy has always been key.

Let’s move onto the main contenders who I believe this year have an excellent chance of securing that sought after Green Jacket.

The Main Contenders

1. Rickie Fowler :- Fowler finished fifth two years ago in the Masters and has since gone from strength to strength and why he is currently in the world’s top five players. He also has an impressive record at the Masters having made five cuts from five visits and with tremendous power off the tee which has seen him drive an impressive 392yrds at the Hyundai Tournament of Champions this season he certainly has the credentials to win this tournament at what are very generous odds indeed.

2. Justin Rose :- Has played this historic tournament ten times and made the cut ten times and that certainly takes some doing ! Not only that eight of those attempts saw him finish in the top 25 which in itself is another very impressive record and although he doesn’t quite bomb the driver like some of the others on the scene at the moment he has a fantastic short game and has been round one leader in three of his four visits at this tournament and as we saw last year he was right up there on the final day pushing Speith all the way.

3. Adam Scott :- Has been on fire this season and as a previous winner of this tournament he certainly knows his way round the course. Two recent wins in Florida have him in prime condition to add another victory to his list of honours and if he can keep his head and have no issues with his shorter style putter he definitely comes into the equasion.

4. Rory McIlroy :- Has had a difficult couple of season’s, but still shows tremendous promise of winning plenty of major tournaments. He absoloutely bombs the driver and his fairway woods off the tee and his accuracy with the irons is second to none, Rory has a big chance this year and the only thing that does put me off slightly is his current short price.

5. Hideki Matsuyama :- Came 5th place in last years tournament and that will definitely have him confident about his chances this year.  He won the Asian Amateur Championship in 2010 and 2011, is a two-time PGA Tour winner, and a six-time Japan Golf Tour winner. Four years ago, Hideki Matsuyama won the Silver Cup as the low amateur at the Masters Tournament so he knows his way round this course and for me his current odds of 80/1 that are on offer look very much overpriced and definitely worth an each-way bet.

The 2016 Masters Tournament Betting Tips, Overview & Predictions

If things go to plan then the tournament does look likely to be decided between one of the big guns, but the Masters does have a tendancy to throw up some shocks and there are certainly a handfull of players that are not ranked in the top 10 this season that have the potential to win this event.

Rickie Fowler is a player I have always enjoyed watching and I think he has an excellent chance to win his first Masters tournament and he is my number one choice.

Justin Rose chased home Spieth last year and can also be right up there again come Sunday afternoon and he is going to be my second choice.

As for an outsider, for me it has to be Hideki Matsuyama as having won round here already four years ago when he was an amatuer and finishing in 5th place last year, his current odds on offer look great value and if things go his way, it certainly wouldn’t shock me to see him in with a chance to win this event come the final round.
