Scotland v Denmark Preview, International Friendly, Tuesday 29th March 2016

Although Scotland failed to qualify for the EURO’s then did manage to earn a great win away from home last Thursday against the tough side Czech Republic. The game ended 1 – 0 with an early goal scored by Watford’s Ikechi Anya and leaves the squad full of confidence when they face Denmark this Tuesday in Glasgow.

After this friendly we do see Scotland travel to Italy in late May as they hope to upset the former World Cup winners. Although they will not be the bookmakers favourites, if Scotland do get back to the good form shown earlier on the the EURO Championship Qualifiers, then then could potentially upset anyone. Five days later they then travel to France to complete the four friendly matches they currently have booked in.

Denmark also failed to qualify for the EURO’s in France this year even though they did finish in third and went into the play-offs. Here they met Group G’s Sweden in a must win situation yet sadly lost in the first leg 2 – 1 away from home, and then managed to draw at home 2 – 2 thus going out 4 – 3 on aggregate.

Last Thursday we did see Denmark get back to winning was however as they met Iceland at home with a 2 – 1 result. A quick second half brace from Nicolai Jorgensen see off the visitors although they did manage a late 90th minute consolation goal to complete the result. Denmark know Scotland will be a tough side to beat and it will be the last game they get to play until later this year in August.

Scotland Team News

Scotland have seen David Marshall withdraw from action after falling ill with pneumonia yet have seen Steven Fletcher join up with the squad after he missed the game against Czech Republic through an illness. We have now seen Steven Whittaker and Shaun Maloney join up for the Denmark game as coach Gordan Strachan now prepares for the World Cup Qualifiers.

Denmark Team News

News this week was mainly regarding the goalkeeper Kasper Schmeichel as he reportedly picked up a hamstring injury in training this week. But the Leicester City stopper was quick to clear the air on Twitter that he had just withdrawn from training as a precaution and has not pulled out of the squad to face Scotland.

Scotland v Denmark Head to Head Statistics:

In the last five international head to head battlers it has been Denmark who have had the better results with four low scoring wins. Those games were over ten years ago however and the more recent was played in 2011 in which Scotland won the game 2 – 1. In total they have played each other on 12 occasions in which it is all even with 6 wins each.

Previous Average Goals Per Game Statistics

In the 12 games played out against each other we have seen a total of 23 goals scored which is going to give us a low goals per game average of 1.9. Looking at the above table there is a lot of one goal only games so maybe the below option for Tuesdays game could be a good selection.

Scotland are currently the better team in form here having won their last two games. Granted one of the wins was against Gibraltar 6 – 0 yet the more challenging one was away from home more recently against the Czech Republic. Denmark also won their last game which was against Iceland, yet before that had failed to beat Sweden in a bid to get into the EURO’s via the play-offs.

Scotland v Denmark  Match Betting Odds Market

Scotland are actually not the bookmakers favourites to win this game even though they are the home side and the team in better form. This has confused me slightly as to be honest both nations are roughly the same level in my eyes. The best odds on Scotland winning the game can be seen here @ 19/10 with Ladbrokes – Up to £50  Matched Bets for New Customers Registering an Account

The Draw has yet to be seen between these two nations with both sides winning six each in total. The best odds from the bookmakers for the draw can be seen coming in here @ 11/5 with BetVictor – Receive £25 Free Bets For New Customers Registering an Account.

Denmark are the bookies favourites to win this game which has somehow shocked me seeing as though they haven’t been in the best of form lately. They did beat Iceland last week and could be high in spirit so who knows what they can achieve come Thursday. Scotland v Denmark Match Predictions, Banker Tips & First Goal Scorer Bets

International action in Glasgow this Thursday is live via Sky Sports 1 high Definition and features Scotland verses Denmark in what have previously been a low scoring game. The goals per game average was only slightly raised after the last result seen way back in 2011 when Scotland managed a 2 – 1 win. Previously before that they managed to lose five on the trot including the 1 – 0 defeat back in the 1986 World Cup.

Scotland missed out on the EURO’s in France this year even though at one point they looked like they could easily qualify, yet loses to Georgia and Germany soon allowed neighbors the Republic of Ireland to sneak in and steal that last qualifying spot. They also could of qualified if they had kept out a Poland 90th minute equalizer and not drawn to Ireland so as you can see, so many aspects eventually went wrong for Strachan and his men.

Denmark were also unlucky as they were also at one point in fine form and looked on target to qualify without having to head through the play-offs. Yet a few loses here and there forced them to meet Sweden in the play-offs and couldn’t manage to beat them either home or away, and eventually went out 4 – 3 on aggregate over the two legs.

It’s now time for both nations to prepare for the World Cup Qualifiers with Denmark set to meet Armenia, Kazakhstan, Montenegro, Romania and Poland in Group E with favourites Poland and Romania the likely two to get through. Scotland are also in for a tough time as they have England, Lithuania, Malta, Slovakia and Slovenia to face with England no doubt set as the favourites to win Group F.

My predictions for this game are leaning towards two options here with me actually fancying the first draw seen between these two sides. Looking at the form of both nations you couldn’t argue too much either especially as Denmark are slightly ahead regarding the bookies favourites. So for my banker I plan to take both teams to score and draw the match. The next I am going for is for Scotland to win the match, and for this I plan to back the previous score of 2 – 1!
