Italy v Finland Preview, Women’s 2013 European Championship, Wednesday 10th July 2013

It’s not often that Women’s football dominate the headlines, but with their very little men’s football action happening at the moment the Women’s 2013 European Championship’s could see plenty of interest over the next couple of weeks, especially with every single game of the tournament being shown live on television.

Italy cruised through their qualification group without losing a single game and recorded an impressive statistic by scoring 35 times and conceding none and in that kind of form, the whole Italian squad will be brimming with confidence of getting the right result in this opening game taking place at the Örjans Vall, Halmstad on Wednesday evening.

Finland also came through their qualification group in fine style, but they did slip up against the Ukraine losing 0-1 over in Helsinki and will know that they have to be at their very best in this game against Italy if they are to keep hopes alive of progressing through to the latter stages of the tournament.

Italy v Finland Team News

Italy Team News:

Melania Gabbiadini returns to action and looks likely to be involved having now fully recovered from a knee injury that has kept her on the sidelines since 2012 which is a huge boost to the Italian women’s squad. Alice Parisi who at just the tender age of 22 has already played 50 times for her country and definitely looks one of the first names down on the team-sheet to face Finland along with Patrizia Panico who will be key to the success of how far Anotonio Cabrini’s side will go in this competition.

Defender Elisabetta Tona has been ruled out of taking any part during the competition having picked up a leg injury during training.

Finland Team News:

The Finland side have suffered a major setback in the lead up to this tournament as both Top goalscorer Linda Sallstrom and Captian Maija Saari remain unavailable due to respective injuries picked up in recent weeks and that now leaves this Finland side who have an average age of under 25 really up against it now and Coach Andree Jeglertz really does need a miracle to see her side progress through this group stage.

Who Has The Advantage?

In total Italy and Finland have met each other on 22 previous occassion’s, but unfortunately due to Women’s football only recently becoming more popular over recent years we are unable to provide you with all the scores of those matches.

However, we can tell you that from those 22 previous meetings, Italy have won 10, Finland have won 6 and their has been 6 draws, 3 of those coming in the last 4 games played between the two nations as shown in our head to head statistics table above.

Average Goals Per Game?

From the previous 22 matches played between the two nation’s there has been a total of 60 goals scored, which provides us with an average goals per game statistic of 2.72 which strongly suggests that this game should see at least a couple of goals scored during this match on wednesday night in Halmstad.

Italy v Finland Recent Form

Italy: L L L W W
Finland: L W D L D

Italy head into this game with just the slightly better form than Finland having won two of their last five matches played, where as the Finland side could only manage just one victory from their last five matches played and with Finland missing two of their most important players for this whole competition, it’s unlikely that they will go much further than the group stage.

Italy v Finland Match Betting Odds Market.

Italy are the clear favorites to win this match with the online firms which doesn’t surprise me in the least considering how impressive they looked during the qualification stage to these Finals but despite being the clear favourites their current best price of 17/20 with Bet365 (£200 Free Bets for New Customers) does look pretty decent value to me and well worth taking.

Considering that three of the last four meetings between these two sides have finished all square I can certainly see the number crunchers and trend followers getting their cash on this game to finish all square and the Draw is currently a best price of 5/2 with Sky Bet (£10 Free Bets No Deposit Required for New Customers) which for me would be huge value if Finland were not missing two of their best players for this tournament.

Finland would be extremely fortunate to grab a draw from this game let alone winning it as with their side missing their two most important players, I just can’t make any case for Finland to win this game and find the online bookmakers price of 3/1 with Betfred (£50 Free Bets for New Customers) extremely short indeed.

Italy v Finland Match Predictions, Tips & First Goal Scorer Bets.

Italy were extremely dominant during their qualification campaign and I fully expect them to open the tournament with a victory as with Finland missing two of their best players from their squad due to respective injury problems, I just can’t see where the Finland threat is going to come from.

Also with Italy the more likely to win this game the search for the 1st Goalscorer does become a lot easier to choose from and for me the most likely has to be striker Patrizia Panico who is the current top goalscorer for her country.
