Chelsea v Liverpool Preview, Premiership, Saturday 31st October 2015

Things have seemingly gone from bad to worse for Chelsea football club this season since the debacle of Jose Mourinho’s bust up with female club doctor Eva Carneiro.

Chelsea are languishing in 15th position of the Premiership league table having lost five of their opening ten matches played this season, add to that their departure from the league cup midweek when losing to Stoke City in a penalty shoot-out and another defeat on Saturday lunch time at home against Liverpool could be the final straw for Jose’s tenure at the club.

Liverpool have not done a great deal better in their start to the new season, but things are looking like they are heading in the right direction after the appointment of new manager Jurgen Klopp who does seem to have brought back the passion to club and the Liverpool boss and his players will obviously be right up for this game.

Chelsea Team News:

The hosts will assess striker Diego Costa, who could play despite hurting his ribs in the midweek League Cup exit at Stoke.

Pedro will be monitored after returning to training, while Nemanja Matic is back from a ban, but Branislav Ivanovic and Thibaut Courtois remain out.

Liverpool Team News:

Liverpool striker Christian Benteke is fit to play after recovering from a knee injury.

However, Daniel Sturridge is still sidelined by a similar problem. Kolo Toure may miss out with a hamstring injury but James Milner returns from a one-match suspension.

Chelsea v Liverpool Head to Head Statistics:

Saturday’s lunch time game from Stamford Bridge will become the 163rd meeting between the two clubs over the years. Chelsea have won 56 times overall, with 43 of those having come with home advantage. Liverpool have won 69 times overall, with just 21 of those having came at away from home.

The previous 5 meetings below in our head to head statistics table show Chelsea having a clear advantage over Liverpool in recent season’s having won 3 times compared to Liverpool having failed to win any and the remaining 2 games having finished all square.

Previous Average Goals Per Game Statistics

463 Goals have been scored in the previous 162 meetings between the two clubs and this provides us with an overall average goals per game statistic of 2.86.

223 of those Goals have came in the 83 previous matches played at Stamford Bridge and this generates us an average goal scoring statistic of 2.69.

Based on both sets of data shown above, it does seem to indicate that this game should see a minimum of at least two goals scored and betting markets like Total Match Goals 2 or 3 and Both Teams to Score look the best places to concentrate on.

Chelsea v Liverpool Match Predictions, Banker Tips & First Goal Scorer Bets

Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho must be wondering whether his return to the Premiership was a good idea based on what has happened so far this season and if Chelsea were to lose this game at the weekend against Liverpool then I would expect his job at the club to come under serious scrutiny.

However, with Liverpool having Sturridge on the injured list I don’t think the visitors will have enough fire power up front to trouble the Chelsea rear guard even with Benteke playing in this game and for me the hosts should come away as comfortable winners when all is said and done.

As such my Banker Free Tip is going to be Chelsea to Win as at their current odds on offer from the online bookmakers they do look great value to bounce back to winning ways.

My First Goalscorer Free Tip is going to be Diego Costa as although he is not 100% to start this game, I believe if he does then he will be the one slotting the ball passed Mignolet in the Liverpool goal to open up the scoring in this match.
