Birmingham City v Wolves Preview, Championship, Saturday 31st October 2015

Birmingham City ended their great run of form with a loss against Hull City last weekend which was a big shame for the club who would of now been sitting in second position and two points behind league leaders Brighton & Hove Albion. Nothing to panic too much about just yet for the midlands club though with it still being so early in the season to make a major difference. That said if they do get back to winning ways at home against Wolverhampton Wanderers this Saturday then they could see themselves continue to climb the table and make that push for promotion into the Premier League. Four out of the five opponents they face next are all below them in the league and should win a majority of the points being offered. Their hardest game will be the last of the five, which is the away fixture to Brighton & Hove Albion at the end of November.

Wolverhampton Wanderers did exceptionally well last season and only just missed out on the chance to be apart of the play-offs to get promoted into the Premier League. This season however we do seem to be seeing a completely different side as they struggle just below mid table. The club have lost three games on the trot recently and are favourites to be on the end of another defeat come Saturday lunchtime against this in form Birmingham City side. They can take into account that the home side did lose their last game, which did end their run of fours wins in a row. But can they really cause too much trouble with the club struggling for goals lately. With them having lost the last three games, I am starting to wonder where their next win will be, they will have a good chance away from home to Bristol City who are struggling close to the bottom, and they do also face MK Dons at home come the end of November which they will also be favourites for.

Birmingham City Team News:
Birmingham City could see the return of winger Demarai Gray who was missing due to a migraine, although fellow winger David Cotterill could possibly force his way back into the managers plans. Midfielder Maikel Kieftenbeld has been missing due to his groin, but is expected to be fit for Saturdays derby.

Wolves Team News:

Wolves manager Kenny Jackett will be hoping defender Dominic Iorfa will be fit and available for the game come Saturday, although if he isn’t then could hand a debut to Mike Williamson who is on loan form Premiership side Newcastle United. Wolves will be hoping midfielder David Edwards has a few shots in this derby match on Saturday, with the man having scored three goals from the four shots he has currently had.

In the last five fixtures played we have seen Birmingham City in incredible form, and sadly for them it all ended last weekend with a 2 – 0 loss away from home to Hull City. Wolves are very hit and miss lately and have lost their last three games against tougher opponents, but then again could of done a lot better considering the clubs history.

Birmingham City v Wolves Match Predictions, Tips & First Goal Scorer Bets.

Championship action this weekend starts at lunchtime and features this exciting Midlands derby. The game can be seen live on Sky Sports 1 High Definition and features Birmingham City at home against Wolverhampton Wanderers. As for form we are seeing the home side in far better form having won four in a row only to lose last weekend against tough side hull City away from home. Where as Wolves have lost the last three games on the trot and if done better could be sitting much higher than their current fifteenth position.

In the next five fixtures both clubs have a couple of easier opponents, with Wolves facing the tougher with the likes of Ipswich Town and Burnley on the agenda. Birmingham City have four games where they should win a fair number of points, only to then face top of the league Brighton & Hove Albion come the end of November. By then however we may even see Birmingham City top of the league, depending of course on other teams results over the coming weeks. Wolves were a side last season who nearly stole a late entry into the play-offs, yet a couple of poor results at the end of the season seeing to it that they once again miss out on a chance of promotion.

My predictions for this derby on Saturday does tend to lean slightly towards the home side Birmingham City. Now I know the club have the worse of the results out of the two, yet are the team in better form excluding the recent loss to Hull City. As a whole I am fancying the draw, but what kind of draw is seeing to be a difficult choice. So I am tending to lean more towards the simple option as my banker. The next I am going for is both teams to score and for Birmingham City to win the game, allowing them to get back to winning ways and get one over their rivals.
