Crystal Palace v Sunderland Preview, Premiership, Saturday 31st August 2013

Crystal Palace have had a tough welcome to Premier league life having lost both of their league games to Tottenham and Stoke City and it will not please Ian Holloway with Tuesday nights Capital One Cup 2nd round loss to Bristol City. It was a memorable night for some, including ex Arsenal forward Jay Emmanual-Thomas as he smashed home his shot to take his side into the lead only to then have an involvement in Scott Wagstaff finish from outside the area. Palace grabbed a goal in the 94th minute but that is all as they failed to break down the League 1 teams defense taking Crystal Palaces total loses this year to 3 out of 3.

Sunderland kicked off their season at home to a Fulham side who wanted the win slightly more than Paulo Di Canio’s side as Martin Jol’s side came out triumphant with a 1 – 0 win. Slightly better in last weekends game against Southampton who grabbed an equalizer 2 minutes from time to deny Sunderland’s first win of the season, but Di Canio can take a little more encouragement after seeing his side battle back from close defeat in the Capital One Cup against League 1 side MK Dons. For a solid 78 minutes the League 1 side lead the game 2 – 0 only for Sunderland to score 3 goals in just over 10 minutes to take the lead 3 – 2 and then deep into injury time Alan Johnson got on the score sheet to take the game out of MK Don’s reach.

Crystal Palace v Sunderland Team News

Crystal Palace Team News:

Ian Holloway has recently approached loud mouth Joey Barton who snubbed the chance of a return to the Premier League and selected to stay at Championship side Queens Park Rangers as boss Harry Redknapp offered the chance to rebuild himself and has so far impressed in all opening championship games. Barton as usual reverted to Twitter and has stated that “They tried but its not the right move for me and my family right now, but I do hope they stay up as I like Holloway”.

Sunderland Team News:

Although Sunderland boss Paulo Di Canio has been busy in the transfer market during the summer the Italian has recently said he has more funds to spend to continue building his squad, and will continue looking until the transfer window closes. With already bringing in 11 players he is still hoping to add more before Monday nights deadline. With much of the focus being on a left back, midfielder and a striker the controversial Italian has not named any names but is hoping to add a few new names in the next few days.

Crystal Palace v Sunderland Match Predictions, Tips & First Goal Scorer Bets.

I feel Crystal Palace have been unlucky so far in the new season, with the Capital One Cup game excluded I still think they deserved something from the Spurs game so I think its going to be a 2-1 win by the home side. I also think Dwight Gayle will get his awaited goal as the young striker has certainly looked promising.
