Italy v England Preview, International Friendly, Tuesday 31st March 2015

Italy didn’t enjoy their recent qualifier as much as they would of hoped, when they only managed to earn a draw after trailing for a majority of the match. They did take the early lead when Minev scored an own goal, but luckily for Bulgaria they soon equalized when Popov scored. Just six minutes later is all it took for Bulgaria to take the lead when Mitsanski scored. it took Italy until the 84th minute when Eder scored the all important deciding goal, yet it now leaves the Italians two points behind Croatia who lead the group. That could all change however when Italy finally get to play Croatia for the second time and this time will hope for that much needed win to take control of the group.

Although this is only a friendly match we will see both sides fielding teams of the highest calibre. England have now won seven games on the trot which does include two friendlies against Norway and Scotland. Apart from that they have done exceptionally well and won all five of their opening qualifying games and currently lead the group by a clear six points. They have another friendly game before the qualifiers take place again in June, and this time they will face Republic of Ireland away from home. Harry Kane is a name on all England fans lips right now, with the in form striker taking his opportunity with both hands with grabbing a goal on his debut.

Italy Team News:

Italy will be without midfielder Andrea Bertolacci after being ruled out with a shoulder injury he picked up against Bulgaria. The 24 year old has only played twice for his national side with his first cap seen against Albania. Buffon, Alessandro Florenzi seem to have shook off injuries potentially keeping them out of the England fixture.

England Team News:

England knew they had lost Danny Welbeck (knee) and Raheem Sterling (toe) after the Lithuania match but have since then lost James Milner (knee) and Everton’s Leighton Baines who has been allowed to go home. Which means Southampton’s Ryan Bertrand has been called up, although he should be on the bench allowing Arsenal’s Kieran Gibbs the start. As for up front options, we could see Harry Kane start as Welbeck and Sturridge are unavailable.

Italy v England Head to Head Statistics:

In the last five head to head encounters between these two nations we have only seen two competitive matches played, in which England had lost both. They have also played three friendlies and sadly England have only won the once which was back in 2012. In total we have 25 games played between the two, with Italy winning 11 to England’s 8, leaving 6 games ending as draws.

Previous Average Goals Per Game Statistics

In the 25 games played out between the two teams we have seen a total of 60 goals scored. This will give us a goals per game average of 2.4. The above as an option is a solid bet when looking at the above table. However I also feel that gong for the below option could be a good bet.

Italy v England Recent Form (Left to Right)

Italy: D W D W W

England: W W W W W

Even though Italy did beat England in the recent World Cup campaign it is in fact the away side who are in the better form right now having won seven out of their last seven. Italy are also in great form and have drawn two and won five of their last seven although their last result against Bulgaria was slightly unexpected.

England are the team in slightly better form, however they haven’t exactly played the toughest of opponents in their group. Italy v England Match Predictions, Tips & First Goal Scorer Bets.

International friendly action continues on from the EURO Championship Qualifiers in which we see England travel to Italia to face an in form Italy side. The last time the two met was only last year in the group stages of the Brazilian World Cup, even though we did see England play exceptionally well with it being their opening game of the tournament. Italy haven’t also played anyone that tough, with Croatia and the Netherlands the only teams worth mentioning.

Both teams are in good form and we do see England enter this game on the back of seven straight wins and then also a draw back in Brazil. Italy have also done well winning five and drawing twice. Although their recent draws have been in the qualifying stages of the EURO Championships. Croatia and Bulgaria are the two teams taking points off of Italy, which has also now left them second in the group just behind Croatia,

My predictions for this Tuesdays friendly game will see the draw as my first choice, and this is mainly due to the two teams being in great form and potentially cancelling each other out. A part of me also believes that England could grab some revenge here, and seeing as though it is a friendly we could see Italy relax a bit. Although without Pirlo I am not sure how well they can do against England’s strong attacking line up. So lets go for both teams to score and for the game to end as a draw. With the other being Harry Kane to score and England to win.
