Brentford v Aston Villa Preview, Championship, 31st January 2017.

Neither of these two Championship sides are playing too well right now with both losing three out of their last five games played in all competitions. Brentford themselves were knocked out of the FA Cup this week when they lost to Premier League leaders Chelsea 4 – 0, and before that also lost two league games on the trot to Newcastle United and then Wigan Athletic. They did win before that to Birmingham City and Eastleigh.

The clubs next five games will be crucial I feel especially as they could possibly earn points against Aston Villa, Preston North End and Wolverhampton Wanderers. They do also have Reading who are fighting it out in the play-offs. Hardest of the pack though will be current Championship leaders Brighton & Hove Albion even though Brentford will be at home for that game.

Aston Villa have spent a lot of money last summer and are doing no better off for it with them currently sitting in the middle of the table. The club are already out of the FA Cup when they lost to Tottenham Hotspurs, so earned themselves a rest this week. A win away from home to Brentford could see them jump up just the one spot yet it does make them move a step closer to the play-off positions.

Aston Villa were expected to return to the Premier League this season yet something tells me they could be stuck in the Championship for that little bit longer. They could win their next three games and even the home game against Barnsley is winnable. I do see them struggling against Newcastle United however which will be away from home near the end of February.

 Brentford Team News :

Brentford’s form continues to be poor coming into this encounter yet manager Dean Smith continues to stand by his out of form players. The fans can’t complain too much regarding the clubs last result to Chelsea, as a win at The Bridge was only a dream that was very unlikely to become true.

Aston Villa Team News :

Steven Bruce has been busy in the transfer market this January with him now making five signings already. Midfielder Conor Hourihane was the latest capture with Henri Lansbury, Birkir Bjarnason, James Bree and Manchester United’s Sam Johnstone completing the others. Time is running out for Aston Villa if they do wish to make an instant return back to the Premiership.

Brentford v Aston Villa Head to Head Statistics:

In the last five games played against each other it is very much in Aston Villa’s corner with four wins and the more recent draw back in September of last year. In total we have seven games recorded with Brentford still yet to win a game. Aston Villa have won five of the seven with the remaining two games ending as draws. Both clubs are close to equal for the win via the bookmakers so it could be an exciting match come Tuesday.

Previous Average Goals Per Game Statistics

In the seven games played we have seen a total of twenty nine goals scored which is going to give us a goals per game average of four. Although in the last two games played we have only seen two in each it would be great to see the average come to light on Tuesday. The below option could be a good selection I feel.

Brentford v Aston Villa Recent Form All Competitions (Left to Right)

 Brentford: L L L W W

Aston Villa: D L L L D

Both clubs are not in the best of form coming into this game yet it is Brentford who are the better with at least two wins in the last five games played. Aston Villa are the better team in reality, yet it is Brentford who have the better form here so would be favourites to win with them also being at home.

Brentford v Aston Villa Match Predictions, Banker Tips & First Goal Scorer Bets

Championship action this Tuesday can be seen live at the Griffin Park stadium with Brentford set to welcome visitors Aston Villa to their ground. The last time they met was back in September where both clubs took a point from the game, yet this time round things are a little more serious with both clubs in serious need of a win. The relegation zone is just eight points below Brentford and eleven below Aston Villa, so things do need to improve.

A win for either club will only see them move up the table one spot although this does of course depend on other teams playing this week. A draw would be enough for Aston Villa to move above Birmingham City with better goal difference and it is the more likely result to happen this coming Tuesday. Although Aston Villa do have a tough game away from home to Newcastle United coming up, they do have the easier run of games in the next five fixtures.

Brentford will want to beat Aston Villa as they will certainly not be favourites to win their game at home against current league leaders Brighton & Hove Albion. After that they should beat Preston North End as well as Wolverhampton Wanderers who themselves recently knocked out the dismal Liverpool in the FA Cup 4th round. Reading however should be a tough game for Brentford, especially with them being away from home.

My predictions for this game are leaning more towards the draw, and to be honest I do see there being goals scored on the night. So for my banker tip I am going to go for both teams to score and for the game to end as a draw. My next will be for a correct score guess of Brentford to win the game 2 – 1 on the night. I just feel the home side are in better form so could just take the three points.
