Carlisle United v Everton Preview, FA Cup, 4th Round, Sunday 31st January 2016

Carlisle United secured their place in the 4th round of the FA Cup with a penalty shoot out victory away against Yeovil Town after both teams remained dead locked at 1-1 after extra time, although Yeovil Town will certainly be kicking themselves after Francois Zoko missed a penalty in the 3rd minute of injury time which would of sent his side through to face Everton in this 4th round match.

Carlisle United followed up that victory with a 1-1 draw at home in League Two against York City last weekend, Jason Kennedy firing his side in front after just 15mins, but the hosts were unable to add to their lead and with just 3mins to go York City midfielder Luke Summerfield scored only his 3rd goal of the season to rescue a point for his side.

That result keeps Carlisle United in 11th position of the league table and 3pts away from the end of season promotion play off places.

Everton were comfortable 2-0 winners in their 3rd round FA Cup match at home against Dagenham & Redbridge to book their place in this 4th round tie, but Roberto Martinez’s side have failed to win any of their following four matches since that victory, with their last match ending up in a 3-1 defeat away against Manchester City which sent them crashing out of the Capital One Cup.

A lot of Everton fans continue to question the decisions that their manager is making during games and although the hosts are expected to win this game, it does seem that unless Everton finish in at least a top 6 or 7 place this season, Mr Martinez could well be on his way out the club as results this season have been disappointing considering the squad he has available to him.

Carlisle Team News:

The hosts have almost a full squad for this game but will be without the services of defender Daniel Grainger as he continues to receive treatment for an injury related problem. Charlie Wyke will most likely lead the attack up front alongside Hallam Hope and Jabo Ibehre who between them have scored 17 goals this season in League Two.

Everton Team News:

The visitors will be missing Besic, Browning and Hibbert for this game as all three players are still recovering from respective injury related problems.

Mirallas will undertake a late fitness test to see if he can be involved having picked up a knock in the midweek defeat against Manchester City. Roberto Martinez is likely to start with Kone as the lone striker up front with Osman, Lennon and Pienaar providing the support in behind.

Carlisle United v Everton Head to Head Statistics:

Sunday afternoon’ game from Brunton Park will become onely the 4th meeting between the two clubs over the years. Carlisle United have won two times with one of those having came with home advantage where as Everton have managed one victory overall, with none of those having came away from home.

As we can see from our head to head to head statistics table shown below, recent meetings between the two clubs shows Carlisle with a slight advantage having won twice, compared to Everton who have won just the once. However, those two Carlisle victories did come way back in the 70’s.

Previous Average Goals Per Game Statistics

14 Goals have been scored in the previous 3 meetings between the two clubs and this provides us with an overall average goals per game statistic of 4.66.

3 of those Goals were scored in the only game played at Brunton Park and this provides us with an average goals per game statistic of exactly 3.00.

Based on the data shown above, it does seem to indicate that this game should see at least a few goals scored on Sunday afternoon and betting markets like Total Match Goals 2 or 3 and Over 2.5 Goals could be the betting markets to concentrate on here.

Carlisle United v Everton Match Betting Odds Market

Carlisle United are not expected to win this game as their current best price available of 6/1 with Coral – Bet £5 & Receive £20 Free Bets when Registering a New Account, clearly shows, but with home advantage and a surface that Everton will not be used to, the game could be a lot closer than most people are expecting.

The Draw is available at a current best price of 19/5 with BetVictor – Receive £50 Free Bets when Registering a New Account, and is probably the best result that Carlisle United could probably hope for considering the difference in the two squads.

Everton are the clear odds on favourites for this game which is reflected by their current best price of 1/2 with BetFred – Bet £10 & Receive £30 Free Bets when Registering a New Account, and I can possibly see them being involved in quite a few people’s accumaltor bets this weekend at those odds.

Carlisle United v Everton Match Predictions, Banker Tips & First Goal Scorer Bets

Carlisle United will obviously fancy their chances of causing a huge upset in this game on Sunday afternoon as with home advantage and a surface that will suit them much more than it will Everton they can not be completely ruled out of winning this match, regardless of how stupid that may sound.

Remember, the FA Cup has ben re-known for shocks over the years and is why the competition contains such magic as lower league sides really do seem to up their game when taking on the big boys.

However, if we compare the two squads the difference in class is clear to see and although Everton don’t look to be playing their best available team, they still look far too strong in every area of the pitch and with the way results have been going for manager Roberto Martinez recently, I don’t think he can really afford not to win this game as his job could certainly be on the line if he does.

Onto some predictions then and my Banker Free Tip is going to be for Everton Half Time/Full Time as with no real value available for this game, this does look to be the best option to go for and if Everton play well and handle the tricky surface, then we shouldn’t have much problem in landing this.

My First Goalscorer Free Tip is going to be Everton striker Kone to open the goalscoring for his team as with having had to be content with a place on the bench in recent weeks, this match provides with a big chance to show his manager what he is capable of in front of goal and I expect him to take it.
