Chelsea v Manchester City Preview, Premiership, Saturday 31st January 2015

Chelsea survived their visit to Anfield with a 1 – 1 draw but then had to beat Brendan Rodgers side 1 – 0 at The Bridge deep into extra time. Ivanovic scored the only goal of the Capital One Cup tie and placed his side into the final in which they face fellow London club Tottenham Hotspurs. It will be the only English final Chelsea will play in this season as they incredibly lost to 4 – 2 to mid table League One side Bradford City in the FA Cup even though they took a two goal lead via Gary Cahill and midfielder Ramires. Bradford City scored just before half time but then came out after the break a completely different side and then went on to put a further three goals past the Premiership league leaders.

Manchester City also were one of the shock early leavers out of the FA Cup last weekend when Championship side Middlesbrough shocked The Etihad by winning the game 2 – 0 with both goals in the second half. City had plenty of chances to win with ease, yet resolute defending by Middlesbrough see them eventual victors on the day. Manchester City did also lose the week before at The Etihad, where Arsenal decided to put on one of those special performances which out shun the English Champions. The game ended 2 – 0 to Arsenal with a penalty kick from the Spaniard Cazorla and then Olivier Giroud completed the goal scoring just after the hour mark.

Chelsea Team News:

Chelsea have just the one player out injured for this game which is full back Azpilicueta which a hamstring issue. Thibaut Courtois will no doubt feature in goal again for the blues while top scorer Diego Costa should lead the front line. The Spain international has so far scored seventeen Premiership goals this season which is three in front of City striker Sergio Aguero.

Manchester City Team News:

French international Samir Nasri is out of the Champions and currently nurses a calf strain. England number one Joe Hart has been the first name on the teamsheet this season and has so far completed twenty Premiership games this season. The clubs top scorer is Argentine striker Sergio Aguero on fourteen League goals.

Chelsea even though they did lose to a League One club recently, are still the better team in form here as their opponents have actually lost twice in all competitions including their recent FA Cup departure last weekend to Middlesbrough.

Chelsea v Manchester City Match Predictions, Tips & First Goal Scorer Bets.

Premiership action gets back to normal this weekend after a couple of weeks of FA and Capital One Cup action recently. Both clubs here were knocked out of the FA Cup to lower league teams, yet Chelsea did manage to secure a League Cup fixture at Wembley against fellow Londoners Tottenham Hotspurs after they beat League One side Sheffield United over two legs. This game will be played live on Sky Sports 1 High Definition and features league leaders Chelsea verses current champions Manchester City.

Both sides form recently took a dip with both clubs facing exit out of the counties most prestigious FA Cup. Chelsea were knocked out at home by League One side Bradford City, while Manchester City were beaten 2 – 0 at home by Championship club Middlesbrough. Manchester City were also beating at home by Arsenal in the Premiership recently, which may have seriously hindered their chances of catching Chelsea.

My predictions for the game will see Chelsea win the game in some form, while the other I do feel could end in a draw of some kind. So lets go with both sides to score and Chelsea to win the game as the first, where the second will be a goalless draw which will be a rarity by all means. You could go with a 1 – 1 of you fancy that instead, but once again I personally am going to go with my gut feeling of a boring 0 – 0.
