Brentford v Middlesbrough Preview, Championship, Saturday 31st January 2015

Brentford head into this game having had a good season so far and certainly one of a number of clubs involved at the top that could possibly win the title. Brentford have won their last 3 matches on the bounce and with home advantage, they will no doubt be in confident mood of getting something from this match on Saturday lunch time.

Middlesbrough are having an excellent season and are just one point away from joint league leaders Bournemouth and Derby County. Middlesbrough head into this game having remained unbeaten in the league in their last 5 matches and will also be confident of adding some important points to their tally this weekend.

Brentford Team News:

Manager Mark Warburton will be without Scott Hogan, Alan Judge, Lewis Macleod and Alan McCormack for this game as each player continues to receive treatment for respective injury related problems. The good news for Boro fans though is that both Toumani Diagouraga and James Tarkowski have both recovered from knocks picked up in the 2-1 victory against Norwich last weekend and both look set to start this game for the hosts.

Middlesbrough Team News:

Manager Aitor Karanka will be without Daniel Ayala who is suspended and on loan defender Tomas Kalas who has an ankle problem. Ryan Fredericks is also unavailable as he continues to recover from a thigh problem. Emilio Nsue is still on International duty at the African Nations Cup and is also unavailable for the visitors.

Brentford v Middlesbrough Head to Head Statistics:

Saturday lunch times’ game from Griffin Park will become the 12th meeting between the two clubs over the years, of which Brentford have won 4 and Watford have won 4.

As we can see from our head to head statistics table below, these two clubs have only met each once since 1947, so we have to take the very last game back in September last year as to which one of these clubs has the advantage here and with Middlesbrough having won 4-0, it does seem to be the hosts that have the advantage for this one.

Previous Average Goals Per Game Statistics

29 Goals have been scored in the previous 11 matches played between the two clubs overall, which provides us with an average goals per game statistic of 2.63.

15 of those Goals have been scored in the 5 previous meetings between the two clubs at the Griffin Park and this provides us with an average goals per game statistic for this game of exactly 3.00 and seems to suggest that we should see at least 3 goals scored in this one.

Brentford v Middlesbrough Match Predictions, Tips & First Goal Scorer Bets.

This result is crucial to both clubs here on Saturday afternoon and will certainly be one that each side will desperately want to win. Brentford have won their last three games on the bounce and with home advantage and a packed out stadium fully behind them, they are going to be very difficult to beat.

However, they did lose 4-2 at home against Ipswich back on Boxing Day and with Middlesbrough having gone five matches unbeaten, the visitors do look a big threat to steal the thunder and secure maximum points, especially is their reverse fixture this season where Middlesbrough won 4-0 back in September last year is anything to go by.

The average goals per game statistics are expecting this match to see plenty of goals and with both clubs having players in great form in front of goal at the moment, I am expecting at least three to be scored in this one.

As such my Banker is going to be for Both Teams to Score & Over 2.5 Goals as this looks very good odds in a game where both clubs will be going all out to secure the maximum points.

My Saver is going to be for Middlesbrough’s Patrick Bamford to Score at Anytime & Middlesbrough to Win as for me they have the stronger squad for this match and have the psychological advantage over their hosts having smashed them 4-0 last year in the reverse fixture.
