Manchester United v West Ham United Preview, EFL Cup Quarter Finals, Wednesday 30th November 2016

Manchester United will welcome West Ham United to Old Trafford for the second time in four days with the first ending as a 1 – 1 draw in the Premier League. This time it will be for a place in the semi finals of the League Cup and you can only imagine it will be Manchester United who will be the favourites for this encounter. The game could however go either way as the visitors showed recently, they are more than capable of earning something at Old Trafford.

Whoever does win this game will be set to face a number of top sides with Liverpool and Arsenal still in the competition. Also joining them in that selection is fellow Premier League clubs Hull City and Southampton with the remaining teams being that of Newcastle United and Leeds United who currently ply their trade in the Championships.

West Ham United already proved they would not just lay down and let United earn the easy win, with them currently playing a lot better than they have for a majority of the season. They may of lost the previous week to Tottenham Hotspurs, yet it was the Hammers who were the better side, only just losing the game at the dying minutes of the match to a Harry Kane penalty.

West Ham United however do have plenty of tough games coming up, with them hosting Arsenal this weekend and then a visit to face Anfield the following week. After these next three very hard games they can then step it up again as they look to win games against the two newly promoted sides Hull City and Burnley. That said they will still need to play at their best as points are up for grabs, and something they are in serious need of.

Manchester United Team News:

With the suspension of Paul Pogba already in place for this encounter, Mancheser United are now waiting on the fitness of veteran midfielder Michael Carrick. Also missing is Fellaini who like Pogba is also suspended having picked up too many bookings. Could we see outcast Bastian Schweinsteiger who did manage to get on the bench this weekend.

We do see the return of Luke Shaw and Anthony Martial although unsure on if they are to start or not. Chris Smalling is out with a bad tow while good news on Eric Bailly has returned to training after knee ligament damage.

West Ham United Team News:

West Ham United will be missing Diafra Sakho who suffered a hamstring pull at the weekend. We could see Andy Carroll return to action soon as he seems to have revocered from a knee issue. Winston Reid returns to the side having now served his suspension.

Manchester United v West Ham United Head to Head Statistics:

Neither of these sides have the upper hand when it comes down to the last five results with both earning one win each and the three draws all at Old Trafford. It’s a terrible run of results for Manchester United against West Ham and I can only imagine they will want to be getting back to winning ways soon. In total they have met on 114 occasions with Manchester United winning 54 and losing 32. Leaving a further 28 games ending as draws.

Previous Average Goals Per Game Statistics

In the 114 games played out against each other we have seen a total of 362 goals scored. This will give us a goals per game average of 3.2 which is a high number to say the less. I would be more inclined to go for the below selection come Wednesday at Old Trafford.

West Ham United have been terrible all season and only recently seem to be putting together some good performances. They did well against Spurs even though they did lose the game, and then at Old Trafford seem to have found some old form to play well. Manchester United are also not like themselves and really seem to be struggling for some luck when grinding out the results they need.

Manchester United v West Ham United Match Predictions, Banker Tips & First Goal Scorer Bets

Wednesday nights League Cup action can be viewed live on Sky Sports 1 High Definition and once again features Manchester United at home against West Ham United. It’ll be twice in four days the two have played each other at Old Trafford and will no doubt be a result Manchester United will want to forget with them once again drawing against their bogus side.

Manchester United have drawn their last three games played at Old Trafford and what was once a fortress now seems like a good place to go for West Ham United when they search for a result. We could say Manchester United have really suffered with some bad luck, yet surely it can’t all be down to that especially with so much money having been spent during last summers transfer window.

West Ham United have suffered a terrible start to the season with them still dangerously close to the relegation positions. They are currently in sixteenth, just one point outside the dreaded bottom three and the point earned at the weekend was certainly much needed. Can they now beat Manchester United to progress into the semi finals? Who knows, but we will find out with the excitement expected come Wednesday.

My predictions however do lean more in Manchester United’s favour and unlike the weekend I do see the home side actually winning this match with ease. For my banker prediction I am going to go for Manchester United to be tighter at the back and not concede a goal, and with them also winning the match. My next id for Rashford to break his goal drought by scoring the first goal of the game.
