Manchester United v Wolfsburg Preview, Champions League, Wednesday 30th September 2015.

Manchester United maybe sitting top of the Premier League with one point clearance from local rivals City, but will still be determined to correct the mistakes that were made in the opening Champions League group game against PSV a couple of weeks ago. Manchester United completely dominated the game in Holland, yet somehow come away with nothing but a 2 – 1 loss. The club took the lead after ex PSV star Memphis Depay opened the scoring with a sublime goal. The horrific tackle on Luke Shaw see’s the England left back missing way up until April latest, and what makes it worse Hector Moreno who took Shaw out, then went on to score the equalizer having not been sent off, or even cautioned! United will of course be favourites to win Wednesday night, but will need a solid performance from all if they do wish to overturn Bundesliga stars Wolfsburg.

Wolfsburg themselves have started their season well even though they have not capitalized on some fixtures and coming away with draws. They were also smashed 5 – 1 away from home to Bayern Munich recently, and will need that completely out of their minds coming into this game against this strong Manchester United side. The club are currently sitting in fourth position in the Bundesliga having only earned twelve points from a maximum of twenty one. Having seen PSV beat Manchester United in Holland, I could imagine Wolfsburg having more confidence with knowing that their is a chance to beat the English club. That said it wont be easy, as it never is for any club who come visit the famous ground of Old Trafford.

Manchester United Team News:

Manchester United last season really struggled at the start with so many injuries, yet this season did manage to start with minimal issues. Since then however they have seen in form Luke Shaw now out with a devastating double leg break, and is unlikely to feature for at least six months. Marcos Rojo who came on for Luke Shaw has since been ruled out with a hamstring injury of his own. Youngster Paddy McNair was missing against Ipswich in the Capital One Cup with a knock, and have no idea if he is available for Wednesdays clash.

Wolfsburg Team News:

Vieirinha and Koen Casteels have sadly missed the last five matches for Wolfsburg, and we also see Robin Knoche out for a further two weeks. Luiz Gustavo sat out of Saturday’s match with Hannover due to a knee problem. Wolfsburg star man was Kevin De Bruyne, who has of course since signed for United’s bitter rivals Manchester City. Although have signed Julian Draxler from Schalke which is money well spent.

Manchester United v Wolfsburg Head to Head Statistics:

The fixture on Wednesday will be the third time these two sides have met in Europe with Manchester United enjoying a 100% record against the Bundesliga club. That said the German club have improved since 2009 even without Kevin De Bruyne who joined Man City in the summer. Manchester United are at home for this fixture and are of course the solid favourites to win the game.

Previous Average Goals Per Game Statistics

With only two games being played between the two clubs we will have an average of 3.5 goals per game. In total there has been an exceptional amount of goals, with seven scored out of the two games played. I do feel however that the below option is a far safer option for Wednesdays fixture.

Although Manchester United did lose their opening Champions League game to PSV, they are still the better team in form currently. They are also top of the English Premier League table, no doubt the toughest league in the world. That said Wolfsburg are also in reasonably good form, having only lost the once this season.

Manchester United v Wolfsburg Match Predictions, Banker Tips & First Goal Scorer Bets

Champions League action once again comes live on Wednesday night via BT Sports Europe channel in High Definition. With home side Manchester United welcoming Bundesliga side Wolfsburg to Old Trafford. It will be Wolfsburg’s second game played at Old Trafford, with them not enjoying the first too much having lost 2 – 1 back in 2009 in the Champions League group stage. Wolfsburg will also need to play careful when it comes to inviting the Premiership leaders to Germany, as at home they dis also lose, this time 3 – 1.

Manchester United may of lost their first group stage game two weeks ago to PSV, yet should never of done so having dominated the game all throughout the ninety minutes. Yet a laps in concentration see PSV grab two goals even though the club should of been down to ten men after that horrific tackle from Hector Moreno against England left back Luke Shaw, who is now out for six months with a double leg break injury. Manchester United know they are the favourites to win Wednesday night, yet will no doubt be made to work for those three points with their opposition being a very tough side to crack.

My predictions for this game will of course back Manchester United to win, and I do feel club captain Wayne Rooney will have some sort of say in the match and maybe scoring himself a goal. So for the first I am going for Manchester United to win the game and for Rooney to score at some point. The second I am going for is both teams to score in the game, and once again with Manchester United winning the match after ninety minutes.
