Sevilla v Atletico Madrid Preview, Primera La Liga, Sunday 30th August 2015.

Sevilla have not enjoyed the pre-season break and preparations haven’t been the best having experienced four loses as well as an extra loss in the UEFA Super Cup that eventually ended with Barcelona winning 5 – 4 after extra time. It will certainly be a game not to forget anytime soon when Sevilla took the early lead only to then go 4 – 1 down by the 52nd minute mark. All of a sudden Barcelona became extremely sloppy and by the end of the ninety minutes three goals had been scored to bring Sevilla equal. Sadly for the Europa Cup winners they then lost by a Pedro goal five minutes before the end. Sevilla started the season with a goalless draw away from home to Malaga and will not be favourites to win on Sunday against Atletico Madrid, although we have seen the club surprise the better teams so who knows.

Atletico Madrid were not as good last season as the previous in which they won the La Liga title, it could of been down to a number of reasons such as selling a couple of your best players. They enjoyed a solid pre-season having won five of the six games played, while drawing the other leaving them with zero losses. The start to the new season did see them with at home 1 – 0 against Las Palmas, although you could of expected more from Madrid with the talent they posses in their team. They are favourites for the win on Sunday, and will certainly want that result seeing as they next face Barcelona at home. This fixture is always seen as something special and could often be a title decider even though its so early on in the season.

Sevilla Team News:

Sevilla have a couple of injuries coming into this game, with Portuguese midfielder Daniel Carrico being one with a thigh muscle strain. We then have Nicolas Pareja who has suffered with a serious MCL crucial knee ligament issue and I doubt we will see him anytime soon. There is another player missing from Sundays selection with Frenchman Steven N’Zonzi currently suspended after being sent off against Malaga via two yellow card offences.

Atletico Madrid Team News:

Atletico Madrid don’t currently have anyone out injured, although Filipe might be doubtful after only just coming back from a hamstring strain. Thomas has also returned from his knee injury and is now back training with the squad. Last weekends goalscorer Antoine Griezmann has been the subject of many transfer rumours this summer and we are still unsure of where he will end up come the end of the transfer window.

Sevilla v Atletico Madrid Head to Head Statistics:

In the last five head to head we have seen Atletico Madrid come out on top with three wins and a couple of draws, and in the 41 games we have recorded between the two clubs they are actually behind Sevilla in regards to wins. Sevilla are on top slightly with 14 wins and 13 loses, which then also leaves 14 results ending in a draw. Atletico Madrid have beaten Sevilla twice away from home in the last five meetings, which is one of the reasons why they are the favourites to win come Sunday,

Previous Average Goals Per Game Statistics

In the 41 games we have recorded we have seen a total of 109 goals scored. This is going to give us a goals per game average of 2.6 which is both hit and miss when looking at the last five meetings. Atletico Madrid have been scoring pre-season yet only managed one in their first La Liga fixture, so I feel the below option maybe a good selection for Sundays game.

Sevilla v Atletico Madrid Match Predictions, Tips & First Goal Scorer Bets.

La Liga action this Sunday night can be seen live on Sky Sports 1 High Definition and features home side Sevilla against Atletico Madrid who have so far enjoyed an excellent pre-season and start to this campaign. Sevilla however did win a few games during their break, but come into the season on the back of three loses and a couple of draws. The game against Malaga could of been better and things got worse when Steven N’Zonzi see red on 70 minutes when he picked up his second yellow card of the game.

Atletico Madrid last season didn’t look anywhere near as good as the previous season when they managed to pick up their first La Liga win in some time, and this fact could of been put down to the sale of some of their top stars such as Diego Costa to Chelsea and more. They finished a massive sixteen points adrift Barcelona who went on to win the league, something that will need serious improvement if they are to mount a serious challenge and keep up with the likes of Real Madrid and Barcelona. They have also qualified once again for the Champions League which could of been hit and miss seeing as though they were only two points ahead of fifth placed Sevilla.

My predictions for this La Liga fixture on Sunday night will at first see the game end in a draw of some kind, something I feel is more than possible seeing as though Sevilla do have it in them to shock the bigger and tougher sides in the division. With that I am torn between both sides scoring and drawing, or going for a correct score of 1 – 1 or even goalless. The next I am going for is for Atletico Madrid to win away from home, and for them to win without conceding any goals.
