Manchester United v Swansea City Preview, Premiership, 30th April 2017

Manchester United head into this game having had an ok season to be fair and although much more was expected by the club and fans, they have reached the semi final of the Europa League and have their sights firmly set on securing a top four finish as they chase both Manchester City and Liverpool above them.

The hosts have picked up 8ts from their last five league matches played and currently occupy 5th place in the league table on 64pts and a victory could potentially move them up into a champions league qualification spot depending on how City and Liverpool get on in their matches.

Swansea City head into the game having had an awful season by their standards we have seen from the club over the previous years and looks very much in contention to face relegation as they try to chase down Hull City above them who are currently 2pts clear.

The visitors having picked up a measley 4pts from their last five league matches played and currently occupy 18th position in the league table on 31pts. The visitors face a very difficult game going up a strong looking Manchester United side on Sunday afternoon and not many people will be expecting them to win this game, however with players like Gylfi Sugurdsson, Fernando Llorente and Leroy Fer who have all had good seasons for their club, their supporters will have at least some hope of picking up something from this game to keep hopes alive of catching Hull City and with it secure premiership football for another season.

Manchester United Team News :

Manchester United will be without midfielder Marouane Fellaini for Sunday’s Premier League clash against Swansea after his sending-off in the Manchester derby. The Belgium international was shown a straight red card for head-butting Sergio Aguero in the 84th minute of Thursday’s goalless draw at the Etihad Stadium.

The suspension, coupled with a mounting injury crisis, limits United boss Jose Mourinho’s options as he looks to strengthen the club’s bid for automatic Champions League qualification, with United a point and a place off neighbours City in fourth.

United defender Tim Fosu-Mensah suffered an injury in the latter stages of Thursday’s game, adding to United’s lengthy casualty list. Paul Pogba (muscle) and Juan Mata (groin) are still out while it is unclear when Chris Smalling (knee) and Phil Jones (foot) will return.

Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Marcos Rojo are both out for the season with knee injuries.

Swansea City Team News :

Swansea hope to have injured trio Martin Olsson, Leroy Fer and Jack Cork available for the trip to Old Trafford. Olsson (hamstring) and Cork (ankle) both missed last weekend’s home game against Stoke, while Fer suffered a dead leg in the early stages of that 2-0 victory.

Wayne Routledge (hernia), Angel Rangel (foot) and Nathan Dyer (Achilles) remain out.

Manchester United v Swansea City Head to Head Statistics:

Sunday’s lunch time game from Old Trafford will become the 17th meeting between the two clubs over the years, of which Crystal Palace have won 9 times overall with 6 of those victories having came with home advantage.

Swansea City have managed to secure 5 victories overall with 2 of those having came away from home and with their manager still having some key players missing through injury, this really does look an impossible task for the visitors.

As we can see from our head to head to head statistics table shown below, the last five recent meetings shows Swansea City with a slight advantage having won 3 times, compared to Manchester United who have won just 2 times.

06/11/16 PRL Swansea City – Manchester United 1 : 3
02/01/16 PRL Manchester United – Swansea City 2 : 1
30/08/15 PRL Swansea City – Manchester United 2 : 1
21/02/15 PRL Swansea City – Manchester United 2 : 1
16/08/14 PRL Manchester United – Swansea City 1 : 2

Previous Average Goals Per Game Statistics

40 Goals have been scored in the previous 16 meetings between the two clubs and this provides us with an overall average goals per game statistic of excatly 2.50.

20 of those Goals have came in the 8 previous matches played at Old Trafford Stadium and this generates us an average goal scoring statistic of 2.50.

Based on both sets of data shown above it does seem to suggest that this game should see at least a couple of goals scored in this one and the betting market Total Goals Scored 2 or 3 looks a good betting option here.

Manchester United v Swansea City Match Predictions, Banker Tips & First Goal Scorer Bets

Manchester United had a very good result against arch rivals City last time out and with the club still in with a big chance of securing a top four finish and with it a champions league spot for next season, I would expect manager Jose Mourinho to inform his players how important a victory in this game is on Sunday afternoon.

United are by far the better team in form at the moment, but with one eye probably looking towards their midweek semi final first leg match against Celta Vigo, Swansea City could be quite a challenge for the hosts in this game.

Swansea City are staring relegation in the face and really do need to win every game left of the season if they are to absoloutely guarantee they will be playing premiership football next season.

However, they do face an extremely difficult task in this game and the best result I can see the visitors getting is a draw at best.

Onto some predictions then and my Banker Free Tip for this game is going to be for Both Teams to Score as with all five of the last five meetings having seen both teams scored, this looks the stand out pick here at what is very good value in my opinion.

My First Goalscorer Free Tip for this game will be for Swansea City striker Fernando Llorent to Score the 1st Goal of the Game as Swansea City must score first in this game if they are to have any real chance of securing anything from this match and I would expect their manager to have his players really fired up from the get go in this one.
