Newcastle United v Arsenal Preview, Premiership, Saturday 29th August 2015.

Newcastle United have enjoyed their last two results with that loss to Swansea City now seeming to be a distant memory, or maybe that’s getting a little too ahead of ourselves so early on. They earned a point away from home at Old Trafford even though Manchester United looked the stronger side for most of the game. Mid week see Newcastle United into the third round after beating Northampton Town 4 – 1 at home. Arsenal at St James’ Park will certainly be a tough encounter even though they are at home, and will require them to defend as best they can, much like they did against in parts against Manchester United. After Arsenal the club then face West Ham United away from home before then facing newcomers Watford once again at home.

Arsenal started the season well with a win against Chelsea in the Community Shield, but then somehow shocked the Premiership with an embarrassing 2 – 0 loss at home to West Ham United. Since then however they did earn their seasons first three points away to Crystal Palace 2 – 1, only to then finish at home against Liverpool in a goalless draw. Liverpool had so many chances against Arsenal in the first half I think most people lost count. Arsenals midfield was constantly overrun and only a second half talking to and tactical change then see them actually play to their potential. By the end of the game both clubs finished roughly the same when it came to actual shots, and shots on target. Yet Arsenals tally came mainly from the second half in which they pretty much dominated.

Newcastle United Team News:

Newcastle United are without four players for Saturdays game against Arsenal, in which we see three of the clubs seven Frenchman sit out. Moussa Sissoko has played twice so far yet this weekend misses out due to a groin strain. Emmanuel Riviere (knee) and Sylvain Marveaux (groin strain) are the other two however both have still yet to feature this season. Paul Dummett completes the list with a hamstring pull.

Arsenal Team News:

Arsenal did only have midfielder Jack Wilshere on the injury table with him once again out due to his ankle. Yet now we see Thomas Rosicky (knee) and England striker Danny Welbeck (knee) miss out from this weekends clash against Newcastle United. Arsene Wenger has been constantly linked with world class strikers during this transfer window, yet no news of any official bids have been witnessed and maybe we will see it go down to the wire before they sign.

Newcastle United v Arsenal Head to Head Statistics:

In the last five games we can clearly see it is Arsenal who have completely dominated both home and mainly away. In fact the last time Newcastle United actually beat Arsenal was five years ago in 2010 away from home. In total the two have met on 155 occasions in which Arsenal have won 63 times. Newcastle United do have their own fair share of victories with them winning 58. Meaning the remaining 34 games have ended up as draws of some kind.

Arsenal: D W L W W

Without doubt, even with their first league game being a defeat, it is away side Arsenal who are the better team in form here. Although that said Newcastle United have played well in the last two games against Manchester United and Northampton Town. Arsenal however are still the favourites to win on Saturday with the best odds seen below.

Newcastle United v Arsenal Match Predictions, Tips & First Goal Scorer Bets.

Premier League action this Saturday lunchtime can be seen live on BT Sports 1 High Definition with Newcastle United at home and facing Londoners Arsenal. Newcastle United had a terrible season last, and only just managed to avoid the relegation drop when it all fell down to the last game of the season against West Ham United in which they won ended a dreadful run of games without a victory. Arsenal also slipped up at the end of the season and at one point were challenging Chelsea who eventually went on and lifted the trophy.

Arsenal started the season well with a win over Chelsea in the Community Shield, but then lacked the same passion when playing in their opening league game at home to West Ham United. They were humiliated 2 – 0 on the day and once again we started to hear the common groans and moans from fans calling for Arsene Wenger’s head. Just slightly unfair seeing as how much the Frenchman has done for the club and the players. They have however bounced back with a win over Crystal Palace and also a tough home draw against Liverpool.

My predictions for this game does see that of an Arsenal win, even though I do feel Newcastle United have become a stronger team under Steve McClaren. Club captain Coloccini was outstanding against Manchester United and if he plays the same it could frustrate Arsenal. So for that I am going to go with an Arsenal 1 – 0 correct score win, with the next being that of a score draw. The reason behind the second choice is purely based on Arsenals hit and miss performances as well as how Newcastle United defended recently against Manchester United.
