Republic of Ireland v Poland Preview, Euro 2016 Qualification, Sunday 29th March 2015

The Republic of Ireland can take a significant step in the right direction towards qualification for the Finals next summer in France if they can secure 3pts from this match, but the players will need to play a lot better than they did last time out when they lost 1-0 away against Scotland as Poland are currently unbeaten in the group, have scored 15 goals and conceded just 2.

When the teams in the group were announced many people will have had Poland down as their second favourites behind Germany to progress through to the Finals and so far they have not been disappointed as Adam Nawalka’s side head into this game having only lost 1 in their last 11 matches played and the confidence of the players will no doubt be high.

Republic of Ireland Team News:

The hosts will be without midfielder Darron Gibson for this game as he currently receives treatment for a groin injury and Aiden McGeady only looks like playing some of the game due to lack of match fitness. Robbie Keane will lead the attack up front and could be partnered with either Shane Long or Jonathan Walters.

Poland Team News:

The visitors have a strong squad available for this game and will probably start with Robert Lewandowski leading the attack up front with 21 year old Arkadiusz Milik who has been in excellent form for his club this season alongside with Maciej Rybus, Maczynski and Krychowia acting as the main engine room in midfield.

Republic of Ireland v Poland Head to Head Statistics:

Sunday night’s match from the Aviva Stadium will become the 27th meeting between the two nations over the years. Republic of Ireland have managed to win 6 times with 5 of those having came with home advantage and Poland have managed to win 11 times with just 2 of those having came at the Aviva Stadium.

As we can see in our head to head statistics table below which shows the last 5 meetings between the two countries, it has been very even with both having won 1 game a piece and the remaining 3 matches having finished all square and with what’s at stake on Sunday night, you can certainly see another draw as a real possibility in this one.

Previous Average Goals Per Game Statistics

70 Goals have been scored in the previous 26 matches played between the two countries and this provides us with an overall average goals per game statistic of 2.69.

38 of those Goals have graced the nets in the previous 14 matches played between the two nations when Republic of Ireland have had home advantage and this generates us an average goals scoring statistic for this match of 2.71.

Taking both sets of statistics into account it would seem to suggest that we should see a minimum of two goals scored in this game on Sunday night with a strong possibility of three and the Total Match Goals Betting Market looks to be the best choice.

Republic of Ireland v Poland Match Predictions, Tips & First Goal Scorer Bets.

As I have previously mentioned in this preview it does surprise me to see the online bookmakers having installed the Republic of Ireland as the favourites to win this game as for me the Poland squad looks stronger in almost every position of the pitch and with Poland currently unbeaten and knowing that a win in Dublin on Sunday night would add another very important 3pts to their tally their players will certainly be up for this one and will definitely believe they can return back home with the victory.

Republic of Ireland do seem to up their game though when playing in front of their home fans at the Aviva Stadium and do have the players in their squad to make this a very close game, but when a nation has to rely on a 34 year old striker to lead their attack up front in Robbie Keane who has not been involved in any top flight football now for a while it does seem like their options are limited.

The head to head statistics are suggesting this game could finish in a draw as with three of the last five meetings between the two countries having finished all square this is obviously a strong possibility so it could be a wise decision to get something on this game following suit.

However, I just feel that Poland will win this game and at their current odds on offer at around 9/4 they do look the value play here, especially with a certain Robert Lewandowski having scored six times in his last seven games for his club Bayern Munich and this is going to be my Banker prediction for this match.

My Saver is going to be for the young 21 year old Poland striker Arkadiusz Milik to Score at Anytime during the game as he has also been in impressive form for his club Ajax this season and with the Irish defence mainly concentrating on Lewandowski as the main danger I can see Milik finding enough space to possibly get his name on the score-sheet in this game.
