West Bromwich Albion v Middlesbrough Preview, Premiership, 28th August 2016

West Brom head into this game having had a reasonable start to their new season campaign having won one and lost one of their opening two matches played. A 2-1 defeat at home against Everton was followed by a 1-0 away win against Crystal Palace and I fully expect the players to be confident of winning this game on Sunday afternoon against newly promoted side Middlesbrough.

Middlesbrough started their new campaign in the top flight with a fantastic 2-1 away win against Sunderland and followed this up a week later with a hard fought 1-1 draw at home against Stoke City and those two results will also have all the Middlesbrough players confident that they can also win this game on Sunday afternoon.

West Bromwich Albion Team News :

The hosts have a couple of casualties for this game with both Everton Loanee Brendan Galloway and Chris Brunt both unavailable as they struggle with respective injury related problems.

Other than these two players though, manager Tony Pulis has a full squad to choose his starting lineup from and I would expect to see Salomon Rondon lead the attack up front for the hosts.

Middlesbrough Team News :

The visitors also have casualties for this game and will be without the services of George Friend, Fabio da Silva, Victor Valdes, Marten de Roon, Grant Leadbitter and James Husband as they all struggle with respective injury related injuries.

Bernardo Espinosa has now recovered from a knee problem and is expected to take his place in the starting lineup with Stuani and Negredo leading the attack up front.

West Bromwich Albion v Middlesbrough Head to Head Statistics:

Sundays afternoon game from the Hawthorns Stadium will become the 77th meeting between the two clubs over the years, of which hosts West Brom have won 29 overall with 23 of those having came with home advantage.

Middlesbrough have managed to secure an impressive 33 victories overall, but their away record has not been great with the club only having managed to win just 9 times on the road.

As we can see from our head to head to head statistics table shown below, recent meetings between the two clubs shows West Brom having a clear advantage having won four times, compared to Middlesbrough having won just the one.

104 of those Goals have came in the 38 previous matches played at the Hawthorns Stadium and this generates us an average goal scoring statistic of 2.74.

Based on both sets of data shown above it does seem to suggest that we should see between 2 or 3 goals scored in this game on Sunday afternoon.

West Bromwich Albion v Middlesbrough Match Betting Odds Market

West Brom have a number of injuries at the moment and with a defeat midweek in the league cup against Fulham, I do think they might find this a very tough game and for me their current best price of 8/5 with Coral – Bet £5 & Receive £20 Free Bets when Registering a New Account, does look a bit on the short side.

The Draw is a current a best price of 21/10 with Bet365 – Receive £200 Matched Bonus Bets when Registering a New Account and could be a sensible cover bet as a draw between these two clubs is way overdue according to the stats.

Middlesbrough have started the season well and although they don’t have a great record away against West Brom they do have a good strong looking squad and for me they look great value at their current best price of 11/5 with Ladbrokes – Receive £50 Free Bets when Registering a New Account.

West Bromwich Albion v Middlesbrough Match Predictions, Banker Tips & First Goal Scorer Bets

West Brom will be looking to bounce back from their midweek defeat in the league cup against Northampton town on a penalty shoot-out, but with a whole host of injuries to his squad, manager Tony Pulis really is down to his bare bones at the moment and I can see the hosts struggling in this game.

Middlesbrough were also beaten midweek in the league cup losing 2-1 away against Fulham after extra time, but I can’t see that defeat having any negative effect on the players as their real aim this season is no doubt to finish up in mid-table position and with players like Stuani and Negredo leading their attack up front they have by far the better firepower in their squad.

Onto some predictions then and my Banker Free Tip for this game is going to be for Middlesbrough to Win as for me they have the stronger attack than their hosts and having remained unbeaten after their two opening games of the league, they will be hard to beat if taking an early lead.

My First Goalscorer Free Tip is going to be for Christian Stuani to score the first goal of this game as with two goals from the opening two league games he will be in confident mood in front of goal on Sunday afternoon and is great value to fire his side in front.
