Hull City v Derby County Preview, Championship, Friday 27th November 2015

Once again year after year we have an exciting Championship competition with five clubs currently two points apart at the top of the table. In the lead right now however is Steve Bruce’s side Hull City with Brighton & Hove Albion in close second on joint points. That could of been different however as Hull City carelessly dropped a couple of points against Bristol City who themselves are currently one point adrift a relegation position. If the home side manage a win this Friday then they can put five points between them and Derby County and will of course allow Hull to continue their pursuit of automatic promotion after being relegated from the Premiership last season. After this league game the club then face Manchester City in the Capital One Cup away from home, but after that do have three Championship games in which they should win.

Derby County once again ply their trade among those in the play-off positions and are only a couple of points away from the automatic promotion positions. Granted it is too early to get excited, but a win on Friday night will certainly aid their chances of promotion back to the big league. In the last five league games we have seen Derby County rise up the table somewhat having won four of the five, and could of been top if they hadn’t lost away from home to struggling side Nottingham Forest 1 – 0. It will certainly be a tough battle for Derby County this Friday, and grabbing a point or three will certainly aid in their confidence with them also having to face Brighton & Hove Albion in the coming weeks, giving them another opportunity to cement themselves at the top of the table for a few weeks.

Hull City Team News:

This Friday Hull City will be without defender Michael Dawson who has pulled his hamstring during last weekends draw against Bristol City, so we should see Curtis Davies step in to play alongside Maquire in the center of defense. Robert Snodgrass hasn’t enjoyed the best of times since joining Hull City, although has recently returned to training and even completed 90 minutes for the under 21’s. The club will also be without David Meyler due to his knee, and will be sidelined for around two months. Abel Hernandez was missing last week after returning from international duty, and could return for the game against Derby County.

Derby County Team News:

Derby County will be without Bradley Johnson for this match due to serving a suspension, the player picked up his fifth yellow card of the season in the win over Cardiff City. Craig Bryson is fit again and could be set for a return while defenders Cyrus Christie and Jason Shackell have returned to training after picking up injuries last weekend.

Hull City v Derby County Head to Head Statistics:

In the last five head to head fixtures we have seen the home side Hull City come out on top with four wins and a singular loss back in 2012. The two have met each other on ten occasions in which Derby County have only won twice, both of these victories however have been away from home so fair warning for Hull City on Friday. The home side have won on six occasions meaning we have also seen two draws back in 2006 and 2007.

Previous Average Goals Per Game Statistics

In the ten games played between these two Championship clubs we have seen a total of 24 goals scored, this is going to give us an average of 2.4 goals per game, something that is spot on looking at the last two games played. I feel the below option would be a good choice for Fridays game.

In the last five games played both clubs have been in exceptional form having both won four out of their last five games played. Hull City are slightly ahead with the draw against Bristol City, as Derby County managed to lose 1 – 0 against Nottingham Forest. Hull City are the favourites for Friday nights game and would be your best selection.

Hull City v Derby County Match Predictions, Tips & First Goal Scorer Bets.

Championship action this Friday night can be watched live on Sky Sports 1 High Definition and features top of the league Hull City. They welcome Derby County to the Kingston Communications Stadium in a bid to win the game and stay top of the league going into the weekend. If Derby County do win however, which is possible. Then they themselves would go top of the league and sit there until at least Saturday when Brighton & Hove Albion, Burnley and Middlesbrough all play. Brighton & Hove Albion have the tougher match with them playing 6th placed Birmingham City, while Burnley also have a hard fixture away from home against Cardiff City. Middlesbrough however do have the easier fixture when they travel to Huddersfield Town who are close to the relegation zone.

Both clubs are in exceptional form right now with Hull City the better having not lost in thirteen matches in all competitions. Although Derby County lost recently to Nottingham Forest they have still been great and only lost that once in their last twelve games, with them all being in the Championship fixture list. Obviously the home side Hull City are favourites to win the match and continue another week top of the table, however we can’t write off Derby County who themselves have beaten Hull City twice away from home, their only victories against Hull City in the ten games played.

My predictions for this game on Friday do first back the draw of some sort, even though the two sides have only achieved this twice in the past, way back in 2006 and 2007. But I just feel with the form both are in they could both be happy to take a point each from the match. So for my banker I am going to back the draw however simple the bet may sound, I do however feel it is a great selection for this fixture. My second is for both teams to score during the fixture and for the home side Hull City to win the match.
