Sheffield Wednesday v Arsenal Preview, Capital One Cup, Tuesday 27th October 2015

Championship side Sheffield Wednesday have found some form recently and now gone eight games without defeat with the last seen back in mid September when they traveled to Burnley. The last round of the Capital One Cup we did see Sheffield Wednesday defeat Premiership side Newcastle United 1 – 0, but lets face it they are not exactly lighting up the Premiership right now and currently sit in nineteenth position with just six points. Arsenal will be a whole different ball game, and Wednesday will know the away team will be favourites to come away with a victory this Tuesday.

Although Sheffield Wednesday are not tipped to win promotion this year, if their current form continues they could continue creeping up the table with them currently only nine points off top side Brighton & Hove Albion.

Arsenal’s form continues to get better and better recently and seem to have put the loss to Olympiakos in the Champions League far behind them. They managed to keep their European dreams alive last week with a sensational win at home to Bayern Munich which now leaves the group wide open. In the Premier League we have seen Arsenal only concede 1 goal which was at the weekend against Everton at The Emirates. Arsenal did win the game 2 – 1 with all goals in the match being scored in the first half. In the coming weeks we do see Arsene Wenger take his side to Germany in hope of grabbing a win against the Bundesliga Champions Bayern Munich. They do also face bitter rivals Tottenham Hotspurs at home with Swansea City and West Bromwich Albion the remaining two games out of the five.

Sheffield Wednesday Team News:

Sadly for Sheffield Wednesday they do have a number of injury woes with a number of first team starters missing for Tuesdays Capital One Cup clash. Marco Matias, Modou Sougou, Michael Turner and Alex Lopez are all ruled out of the match against Arsenal which has worsened the odds on Sheffield Wednesday actually being able to win against their opponents Tuesday night.

Arsenal Team News:

Mikel Arteta continues to struggle with injuries having now picked up an ankle injury during training before the Everton fixture. Aaron Ramsey also misses out after being forced off against Bayern Munich with a hamstring issue. Tomas Rosiky was ruled out for up to two months in August, yet we still don’t have news on a possible return. Danny Welbeck (knee) and Jack Wilshere (ankle) are still out with injuries and no news on when they are likely to return.

Sheffield Wednesday v Arsenal Head to Head Statistics:

It’s been fifteen years since these two clubs last met, when the Premiership was a home to diminished club Sheffield Wednesday. In the last five games played out against each other we do only just see Arsenal come out on top with two wins, two draws and a single loss away from home in 1998. In total we have 108 games recorded and have seen Sheffield Wednesday do reasonably well having won 30 of them. Arsenal do come out on top with 46 victories, leaving 30 games ending in draws of some kind.

Previous Average Goals Per Game Statistics

In these 106 games played out between these two historic clubs we have seen a total of 331 goals scored with both clubs responsible for roughly a fair share. The goals per game average is going to be 3.1 which in the past was very hit and miss if looking at the above table. But with the two teams playing in different divisions for the last fifteen years I do feel that average has a higher chance of being seen come Tuesday.

Both teams have been in great form recently which also includes the loss in the Champions League at home for Arsenal, but having then beaten Manchester United 3 – 0 and Bayern Munich 2 – 0 you can’t help but feel Arsenal recovered very well from their loss.

Sheffield Wednesday v Arsenal Match Betting Odds Market

Sheffield Wednesday may well be at home and also a team in good form, yet they are still not anywhere near considered as the favourites to win this game against their Premiership visitors. The bookmakers best odds right now for them to win can be seen coming in here @ 7/1 with Betvictor – £50 Free Bets For New Customers Registering an Account.

The Draw is a result I do feel Sheffield Wednesday are capable of, but lets be realistic here because I can’t see it doing them any good, as an away replay at The Emirates will certainly not be an easier task. Arsenal are in exhilarating form right now having smashed Manchester United and also took apart Bundesliga Champions Bayern Munich last week. Sheffield Wednesday v Arsenal Match Predictions, Banker Tips & First Goal Scorer Bets

Capital One Cup action this Tuesday night features home side Sheffield Wednesday against Premiership high fliers Arsenal. The game can be viewed live on Sky Sports 1 High Definition and looks set to offer a fixture with a potential high amount of goals. We have seen Arsenal only concede one goal in all competitions in their last four fixtures, which is exceptional seeing as though they have faced the likes of Manchester United and Bayern Munich in the Champions League. The clubs form is getting better and better and it will need to continue if they wish to go to Germany and grab a result against Bayern Munich.

Sheffield Wednesday have been exceptional in their last eight fixtures in all competitions, and even knocked out the likes of Newcastle United in the previous round of the League Cup. Granted as said already, that isn’t much of an achievement as Newcastle United are looking more and more likely to be relegated come the end of the season with only six points from ten games. Sheffield Wednesday have started to climb the league table in recent weeks, and now only sit nine points off current league leaders Brighton & Hove Albion. They were not tipped to earn promotion and that prediction still looks pretty solid. But with the way the Championship side are playing you just don’t know who will be up there come the end of the season.

My predictions for this Capital One Cup clash does of course back that of Arsenal to win, and not only win, but win with ease on the night. If recent results are anything to go by, then Sheffield Wednesday will really struggle to even score against the London based club. So for my first I am going to go with Arsenal to win to nil as my banker bet. The next I am going for is Arsenal to win the game with a two goal margin, which is currently giving out some reasonable odds.
