Manchester City v Manchester United Preview, Premiership, Thursday 27th April 2017.

Manchester City picked up the pace again in the Premier League with wins over Hull City and Southampton, but did find themselves losing to Arsenal in the FA Cup semi finals which eventually went to extra time. This Manchester derby will be a must win for both clubs here especially if they want to be playing Champions League football next season. City however have the home advantage and will no doubt be the favourites to take all three points.

The blue side of Manchester have the easier remaining games of the season with Middlesbrough away from home their next fixture. After this it will be three home fixtures against Crystal Palace, West Bromwich Albion and the champions Leicester City. Before finally ending this exciting season away from home to Watford. Now considering the run in they really should be winning all of their remaining games.

Much like their bitter rivals, Manchester United come into this game desperate for a win which will take them into fourth place if successful. Sadly for United however is that they have seriously been hit by injuries as of late. Jose Mourinho’s side are on an exceptional run without loses in the league, yet would really of have hoped for more wins instead of the many draws they have earned.

Manchester United still have another option of reaching the Champions League with them now in the semi finals of the Europa League competition. They next face Celta Vigo from Spain which is of course the easier of the sides who have reached this stage. United do have a tough run in to the end of the season with Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspurs away from home still left to play.

Manchester City Team News :

City could be without playmaker David Silva for the derby with him picking up a hamstring strain in the FA Cup loss to Arsenal recently. Although striker Sergio Aguero picked up a knock in the same game he is likely to play on Thursday. We could see Gabriel Jesus return to action having been missing for two months, while defenders Bacary Sagna and John Stones are hopeful of a return.

Manchester United Team News :

Manchester United will be without the worlds most expensive signing as Paul Pogba picked up a muscle injury in the win against Burnley. Phil Jones (foot) and Chris Smalling (knee) are missing from defense while Juan Mata (groin) is also out for the rest of the season. Also out long term is Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Marcos Rojo (both knee).

Manchester United: W W W D W

Although Manchester City are higher than their opponents it is the red side of Manchester that are the better side in form right now. City have lost twice in their last five games which has also lead to them being knocked out of the FA Cup semi final to Arsenal. Manchester United need to win on Thursday night to climb up the table into that 4th place Champions League finish.

Manchester City v Manchester United Match Predictions, Banker Tips & First Goal Scorer Bets

Midweek Premier League action can be seen live at The Etihad Stadium with Manchester City set to welcome bitter rivals Manchester United to their ground. It will no doubt be a must win for both sides on more fronts than the one. A win for the home side will put some distance between them and United, where as a loss for City will see their rivals climb up into fourth and then favourites to claim that last Champions League spot.

They did lose recently against Arsenal in the FA Cup semi final, where they could of faced Chelsea and potentially of lifted the trophy. But now all they have to play for is the league with a potential third place finish still up for grabs. They could still win the league, but Chelsea and Tottenham Hotspurs would need to lose all of their remaining games to do so. Spurs are just seven points in front, so that position is more realistic than first place.

Manchester United however will know that if they can win all of their remaining matches a top four finish is more than there for the taking. Considering that they still are in the Europa League competition in the final, they still will not want to risk it and still finish top four for that Champions League spot. A win for United on Thursday will see them climb into fourth as mentioned, and from there on who knows how high they can climb.

My predictions for this Thursdays game do back that of Manchester City to win, as I do fear Manchester United could leave themselves vulnerable as they go on the attack for goals. So for my banker prediction I am going to take both teams to score and for the home side Manchester City to win. The next I am going for is Marcus Rashford to once again be on target with an anytime goal scoring finish.
