Liverpool v Chelsea Preview, Premiership, Sunday 27th April 2014

Last weekend this game between Liverpool and Chelsea could have potentially have been the title-deciding clash for this years Premier league, however Sunderland who previously dented Manchester city’s title challenge beat Chelsea 2-1 at Stamford Bridge so now Chelsea are five points behind leaders Liverpool and they need to beat them at Anfield and hope Liverpool slip up in the two remaining games of the season.

Liverpool’s manager Brendan Rodgers will not believe that his side are in pole position to win the title at this stage of the season as Liverpool have not really changed their team from last season where they finished in a disappointing 8th place. Steven Gerrard’s reaction after beating Manchester City a couple of weeks ago was priceless and showed what a true leader and captain he is of his club and if anyone ever deserves a Premier League medal then it has to be Gerrard as he has been a terrific servant for Liverpool football club over the years.

Liverpool Team News:

Liverpool don’t have too many injuries to worry about going into this game, however Jose Enrique is going to miss this game and the rest of the season with a knee injury. Daniel Sturridge will face a late fitness test before the game. Liverpool have Jordan Hendersson suspended for this fixture.

Chelsea Team News:

Chelsea have a few casualties going into this game as Samuel Eto’o is ruled out with a knee problem. Goalkeeper Cech is also out as he sustained a shoulder injury last week, John Terry is suffering with a foot injury and he will miss out as well. Eden Hazard will face a late fitness test before the game. Chelsea have no players suspended.

Liverpool v Chelsea Head to Head Statistics:

In total the clubs have met 157 times over the years with Liverpool winning 69 (48 at Anfield), Chelsea have won 53 (11 at Anfield) and there has been a total of 35 draws (17 coming at Anfield).

Chelsea have a slight advantage over Liverpool in the recent head to head statistics having won 2 times with Liverpool winning once and their being two draws in the previous five meetings between the two clubs.

Previous Average Goals Per Game Statistics

In these 157 games played in the past between these two clubs we have seen a total of 453 goals scored which gives us an overall average of 2.88 goals per game.

233 of these Goals have been scored in the previous 76 matches played at Anfield, which generates us an average goals per game statistic of 3.06.

Looking at both the average goals per game statistics come Sunday afternoon we should have seen two or three goals hitting the back of the nets in an exciting game.

Liverpool v Chelsea Recent Form (Left to Right)

Liverpool: W W W W W

Chelsea: W W W L D

As we can see above Liverpool totally dominate the recent form as they have won five out of their last five games, also they have won their last nine games. Chelsea have won three times, lost once and drew the once in their last five outings.

Liverpool v Chelsea Match Betting Odds Market

Liverpool are heading into this game with a five point lead over Chelsea with just three games to play and are massive favourites to win the title with the fans and with the bookmakers, however Chelsea will be looking to close the gap to just two points with a win at Anfield on Sunday and with tactical genius Mourinho as their manager I believe it is very possible. The best price for Liverpool to win is currently available at 8/11 with Bet365 (£200 Matched Bonus Bets for New Customers).

The Draw has a high chance in my opinion, as I believe both teams might cancel each other out. It might be an exciting match full of goals but I still believe if you like a flutter you should be putting your money on a score draw. Mourinho seems to get his tactics right in these types of games and he might just settle for a draw in this one. The best price is for both teams to share the points on sunday afternoon is currently available at 3/1 with Paddy Power (£50 Free Bets for New Customers).

Chelsea have to win this game if they have any chance of winning the Premier League this season as they are five points behind their opponents Liverpool. Mourinho has said that he might rest players in this game as they have a Champions League semi final to play mid-week which I find very odd as they still have a chance at the Premiership. The best price for Chelsea to win this game and get right back in the title race is currently available at 9/2 with Betfred (£10 Free Bets No Deposit Required for New Customers).

Liverpool v Chelsea Match Predictions, Tips & First Goal Scorer Bets.

First meets second in the race for the Premier League title on Sunday afternoon and we should be in for an exciting match looking at all of the statistics above. Liverpool if they win have surely won the title baring a disaster, however Manchester City have a couple of games in hand and if they win all their remaining game and Chelsea upset Liverpool then the title could come down to goal difference.

Mourinho will have one eye on his Champions League class next week with Athletico Madrid and has stated he wants to rest some players, however I believe this is his typical mind games he plays. I think he wont rest any players as his squad is thin at the moment especially up front were he has Eto’o injured and arguably their best forward is on loan at Everton in the shape of Romelu Lukaku.

So down to some predictions for this game which has not been any easy choice by any means, but my Banker is going to be the game to see Under 2.5 Goals as I believe both teams will cancel each other out as they both search for those all important three points.

My Saver is going to be a correct score and I have chosen this game to finish 1-1 as there really is little to choose between the two sides from what we have seen this season and so every chance this game can finish up in low score draw come sunday afternoon.
