England v Lithuania Preview, Euro 2016 Qualification, Friday 27th March 2015

Roy Hodgson’s side will come into this qualifying match brimming with confidence with the side now having won their last six games on the bounce. Two of the fixtures were friendlies with the other four far more important with them being EURO Championship qualifying games. England are sitting high and mighty in the Group Table with a maximum of twelve points taken, and see their closest challengers Slovenia a massive six points behind with them losing and winning twice. We also see Switzerland and Lithuania on six points and with England being the solid favourites for Fridays game we should see Lithuania stay the same.

Lithuania know they have a very tough challenge when they play at Wembley Stadium Friday night, knowing that a loss could see them slip further behind Switzerland and Slovenia who are both favourites for the win in their qualifying games. They started their campaign with a 2 – 0 win over San Marino away from home and then followed up with a 1 – 0 win at home against Estonia. But have since then lost to Switzerland and Slovenia. We know Lithuania are outsiders to take the third place qualifying spot, with England and Switzerland the bookmakers favourites for automatic qualification.

England Team News:

We have seen a number of England internationals being withdrawn from the next two fixtures against Lithuania and Italy and could spell a headache for England coach Roy Hodgson. Danny Rose is the latest to pull out with his hip and hamstring, and was only recently called up to replace Manchester Uniteds Luke Shaw who has suffered a hamstring pull. Fraser Forster is out as well as Liverpool due Daniel Sturridge and Adam Lallana who were injured in the defeat to Manchester United.

Lithuania Team News:

Lithuania played a 4 – 5 – 1 in their last fixture against Switzerland, and they could try it again in the tough match against group leaders England. Striker Matulevicius was responsible for leading the attack and has so far only scored one goal in the EURO qualifying campaign. The other two players who have contributed to the goals are Novikovas and Mikoliunas who both play in midfield.

England v Lithuania Head to Head Statistics:

Sadly we do not have any recorded history between these two nations and I can only add that it is more than likely that both qualifying fixtures will end up with England as solid favourites for the win. After this Fridays fixture the next time they will meet will be later in the year in October.

Previous Average Goals Per Game Statistics

With no games recorded between the two sides we sadly do not have a goals per game average for you. But I feel with the way England are playing we could see at least two to three goals being scored come Friday evening.

England are in superior form since coming home from Brazil having suffered a disappointing World Cup campaign, and have since then won all six fixtures. Two of the six have been friendlies, yet the more important have been the four solid wins during their EURO Championship Qualifying campaign.

Lithuania to win the game is to be seriously avoided here especially as they have only managed three campaign goals so far. England v Lithuania Match Predictions, Tips & First Goal Scorer Bets.

European Championship Qualifying action on Friday night comes live from London at the famous Wembley Stadium, and features home side England verses Lithuania. The game can be seen live on ITV 1 High Definition where favourites England will be looking to continue their run of winning games and also add another three points to the board in an attempt to qualify with ease.

Lithuania are expected to lose on Friday night, and if so will see them drop behind Switzerland and Slovenia with both of those nations expected to win their group games. They have lost their last two  games which were against the last two teams mentioned, although did manage to beat Estonia and San Marino. England however have won their last six games which do include all four of their current qualifying fixtures played. It leaves them top of the table on twelve points, six in front of any other team.

My predictions for Friday nights game will be of course to back England in both, as I seriously can’t see Lithuania grabbing anything from this game, especially with it being play at Wembley in front of the home crowd. I am hoping with the absence of Daniel Sturridge that we do get to see the in form Harry Kane start the match, if is he does I can see him scoring on the night. The next I am going for is Wayne Rooney to score two or more goals.
