Chelsea v Liverpool Preview, League Cup, Semi Final 2nd Leg, Tuesday 27th January 2015

Chelsea suffered a major shock over the weekend when crashing out of the FA Cup 4-2 at home against Bradford City and I would expect that Jose Mourinho was far from happy about it as this has to go down as the most embarrassing defeat of his entire managerial career and I am expecting Chelsea to bounce back from that defeat with a much better performance on Tuesday night when they play host to Liverpool.

Liverpool also suffered a bit of a shock result in their FA Cup match over the weekend as they drew 0-0 at home against Bolton Wanderers, but unlike their hosts, they are still in the tournament and will look to make amends in the return leg.

However, all focus will definitely be on this game for the players on Tuesday night as they will all feel very unlucky not to have won the first leg at Anfield last week in a match that they completely dominated from start to finish and another performance like that certainly gives them a good chance of winning this game.

Chelsea Team News:

Manager Jose Mourinho has a fully fit squad to choose his starting lineup from, so expect the likes of Fabregas and Diego Costa to be involved for this one from the start.

Liverpool Team News:

Manager Brendan Rogers has Daniel Sturridge back in training and he could make a shock appearance in this important 2nd leg match, however he may have to be happy with a place on the bench as he is unlikely to be risked from the start. Captain Steven Gerrard and Skrtel will both take their places is in the starting lineup having been rested for the weekend’s FA Cup 0-0 draw over the weekend.

Chelsea v Liverpool Head to Head Statistics:

Tuesday night’s game from Stamford Bridge will become the 161st meeting between the two clubs over the years of which Chelsea have won 55 times, 42 of those coming at Stamford Bridge, Liverpool have won 69 times, 21 of those having came at Stamford Bridge.

18 of the 36 Draws have been at Stamford Bridge and looking at our head to head statistics table below, we see that Chelsea have enjoyed much the better of the results over recent seasons as they have managed 3 victories with Liverpool having failed to win any.

20/01/15 LEC Liverpool vs Chelsea 1 : 2

Previous Average Goals Per Game Statistics

In the 160 games played against each other in the past we have seen a total of 460 goals scored. This provides us with an average of 2.87 goals per game.

220 of those Goals have been scored in the previous 81 matches played at Stamford Bridge between the two clubs and this generates us an average goal scoring statistic for this match of 2.71.

Both sets of data seem to suggest that we should see between 2 or 3 Goals scored in this game on Tuesday night.

Chelsea v Liverpool Match Predictions, Tips & First Goal Scorer Bets.

Jose Mourinho will be less than happy with his players having seen them fall 4-2 at home against Bradford City in the FA Cup over the weekend and I am fully expecting this Chelsea lineup to come out of the blocks firing on all cylinders.

Liverpool enjoyed a lot of possession and chances during the first leg last week and failure to convert those could prove costly in this one, as with Chelsea now having that all important home advantage and their strongest lineup starting this game, I do believe the hosts will do enough to win this game.

The average goals per game statistics are expecting between 2 or 3 goals scored in this one and the stand out wager for this game does seem to be total match goals 2 or 3, however, both clubs will be going for the victory on Tuesday night and as such I am expecting this game to see at least 3 or more goals scored.

My Banker prediction is going to be for Diego Costa to Score & Chelsea to Win, with a Saver prediction on Both Teams to Score & Chelsea to Win.
