West Ham United v Arsenal Preview, Premiership, Thursday 26th December 2013

West Ham United are a team soon to be battling out in the relegation zone if they don’t start becoming more consistent with their results. In the last couple of months we have seen them neat Spurs twice and then struggle against relegation sides Crystal Palace and Sunderland and even newly promoted sides such as Hull City have given them a run for their money and came away with results. This currently leaves West Ham in a very delicate position and only 1 point away from the drop zone. They have not had any recent runs of easy games and with losing at Old Trafford this weekend they now host Arsenal who are in far better form than Manchester United.

Arsenal come into this game on the back of two defeats against Napoli who ended Arsenals chances of an easy draw in the Champions League and then traveled to Manchester City and were on the receiving end of a humiliating 6 – 3 defeat. That defeat has allowed City to draw level on points with Arsenal who a few weeks ago were starting to run away with the league. They face Chelsea tonight and a win will see them return to the top of the Premiership but if they once again fail to beat any of the other top teams it will allow Chelsea to go joint top with Liverpool for the Christmas period.

West Ham United Team News:

West Ham United took a beating in the red side of Manchester at the weekend which ended any further upsets at Old Trafford after they had lost the last two home games there. Regarding injuries we see that Andy Carroll could be set for a return at the end of December which will ease some of West Hams attacking options if the England man can keep himself fit and get back to his best. We also have Downing and Reid out until the end of January. Vaz Te and Petric are also still out with injuries and will no doubt be once again missing against Arsenal.

Arsenal Team News:

Arsenal are still without a fair few key players coming up to the end of the year with their latest being Japanese player Miyaichi who has suffered a hamstring injury. Arsenal are still without Diaby who is missing until March with a crucial knee ligament injury as well as Sanogo (back) and Oxlade-Chamberlain with a knee injury. We also see England midfielder Jack Wilshere miss this game as well as the game against Chelsea due to suspension.

West Ham United v Arsenal Head to Head Statistics:

Since time we have recorded 111 games played between these two sides with Arsenal winning an incredible 52 of them to West Ham’s 27, and with 32 draws we have seen Arsenal do that 19 times away from home as well as win 23 times at Upton Park. Which shows how dominant Arsenal have been in the history between these two huge clubs.

In those 111 games we have seen a total of 305 goals scored which is giving us an average of 2.74 goals per game and with the way Arsenal are playing we should see some goals scored on BT Sports on Boxing Day.

West Ham United v Arsenal Recent Form (Left to Right)

West Ham United: L W D L L

Arsenal: L L D W W

Although Arsenals form has taken a knock in recent weeks with two loses and a draw they would still be the better team coming into this game on Boxing Day. Depending what happens when Chelsea travel to Arsenal on Monday night will only show who will sit atop the Premiership for Christmas Day.

West Ham United v Arsenal Match Predictions, Tips & First Goal Scorer Bets.

With everything taken into account we can all pretty much come to an agreement here on who will come out with the winning result come Boxing Day. West Ham host Arsenal on the back of a defeat at Old Trafford which will have knocked their already broken confidence and it will only get worse as The Hammers come into this match knowing another defeat could see them drop into the relegation zone.

So as for predictions both of mine will favor Arsenal for this game and although they will be missing Jack Wilshere they still have far too many midfield options to worry themselves that much. There are a few options here and one I am favoring is a Wincast with Aaron Ramsey to Score and Arsenal to win the match which is giving some good odds right now. Ramsey has been on fire this season and although he hasn’t scored since Arsenal beat Cardiff City 3 – 0 at the end of November I can’t see it taking too long until he is once more on the score sheet. The other prediction I am going for is to see Olivier Giroud to Score First which is something he often does and playing against a West Ham side who suffered to 3 goals at the weekend I can see the Frenchman getting back to scoring more regular.
