Liverpool v Bordeaux Preview, Europa League, Thursday 26th November 2015

Liverpool head into the match on the back of a massive win at the weekend when they completely destroyed the then league leaders Manchester City by a whopping 4 – 1. Liverpool were in the lead early on when Mangala placed the ball into his own net and it wasn’t long until Liverpool went 3 – 0 up just after the half hour mark. Sergio Aguero did pull a goal back before half time but the second half City just never seemed to push their opponents too much, they eventually conceded again when Skrtel headed home for the reds. Liverpool are still down in ninth right now but under new manager Jurgen Klopp they do seem to be a far better side and now seem to also be enjoying their football somewhat. The game will need to be won on Thursday night to see Liverpool qualify automatically for the next out round.

French side Bordeaux are currently three points adrift their opponents Liverpool come Thursday and only a win will see them in a position to earn qualification. If the club do win on Thursday it will leave them in a good position as their last game is a home fixture against bottom of the group Rubin Kazan. Liverpools last game is against the top club Sion of Switzerland who are right now two points ahead of the English side. Bordeaux themselves have been hit and miss this season in Ligue 1 and currently sit below mid-table in thirteenth. Results have been here and there with them winning twice and once each drawing and losing in the league. Their last Europa League match was against top of the table Sion away from home, in which the club did extremely well having earned a 1 – 1

Liverpool Team News:

Liverpool are without a number of first team players with Coutinho the latest addition with a slight hamstring pull. Mamadou Sakho is missing due to his knee while Joe Gomez and Danny Ings are out long term with their knee. Jordan Henderson however is soon to return from a foot injury, although this week maybe far too soon. Skrtel is unlikely to feature on Thursday night with the defender currently under the weather.

Bordeaux Team News:

Ligue 1 side Bordeaux will be without their top scorer Wahbi Khazri due to the striker having to serve a suspension. This wont help the fact that Bordeaux have yet to win a game in this competition with them now having their top hit-man missing. The club will be without defenders Nicolas Pallois and Pablo as well as Gregory Sertic from midfield. Another striker missing on Thursday is Thomas Toure.

Liverpool v Bordeaux Head to Head Statistics:

The two clubs have so far faced each other on three occasions with Liverpool enjoying the better results with two wins and a recent draw in France. Liverpool will need to win this game on Thursday which in turn will trigger an automatic qualification spot. The club are also the solid favourites to win the match.

Previous Average Goals Per Game Statistics

In the three games the two clubs have previously played there have been a total of six goals scored. This is of course going to give us a goals per game average of two. Now Bordeaux are without their in form striker as well as another who is injured. Where as Liverpool are likely to allow Daniel Sturridge some game time having returned from injury. So I’d be inclined to go with the below selection come Thursday.

With Liverpool’s humiliation of Manchester City at the weekend you can only imagine the confidence the club have right now coming into this fixture. Granted they did lose the game before that to Crystal Palace, but to bounce back like that and stuff City 4 – 1 away from home, you can only stand back and applaud.

Liverpool v Bordeaux Match Predictions, Banker Tips & First Goal Scorer Bets

Europa League action this Thursday can be seen live on BT Europe and in High Definition and features home side Liverpool verses French outfit Bordeaux. Both clubs are far too low in their domestic league to applaud just how well they have been doing this season, although I can comment that since Jurgen Klopp has taken over as manager of Liverpool the club do seem to be on the rise. With them beating Manchester City 4 – 1 at the weekend and also Chelsea 3 – 1 you cant help but admire the clubs away form right now. Yet however they then go and lose at Anfield 2 – 1 to Crystal Palace, a club soon becoming their boogie side.

Bordeaux did well to qualify last season yet have failed to so far show anyone what they are capable of. The club have yet to win a game in this competition, having so far drawn on three occasions and lost the once at home to Switz side Sion who are top. They are currently thirteenth in Ligue 1 and only managed to qualify for this competition last season while finishing in sixth. In my point of view the club shouldn’t even be here, but then Liverpool didn’t exactly light up the Premiership so maybe I should quit judging.

My predictions for this game will favour that of Liverpool to win come the end of the night, as Bordeaux will now struggle due to a recent injury crisis from their weekend league game. They are also without their top goalscorer who is suspended where as Liverpool see the return of Daniel Sturridge and have goal scoring options. My first will be for Liverpool to WIN the game to NIL, this will be my banker while the other I would love to see Sturridge score on his return, so for that can select an anytime goalscorer.
