Arsenal v Marseille Preview, Champions League, Tuesday 26th November 2013

Arsenal will see this match as a must win game if they are to secure qualification to the knock-out stages of the competition and with an excellent result at the weekend in the Premiership and having home advantage it should be business as usual at the Emirates Stadium come Tuesday night.

Arsenal have been in great form for some time now and have lost just three times in nineteen games played and have faced some tough opponents along the way. They have beaten Marseille away from home already in the reverse fixture of the group and will be full of confidence that they can win this match.

Marseille have already been eliminated from the Champions League and have nothing to play for but pride and this can make a team very tough to play against as they can just relax with no pressure and go for it as they really have nothing to lose.

Marseille showed this when they took the lead against Napoli in the last Champions League game and although their lead didn’t last long and they were soon behind they did show fighting spirit and managed to equalize before Higuain finished them off late on and their attack is certainly very dangerous going forward and will no doubt cause the Arsenal defence some problems during the match.

Arsenal Team News:

Walcott, Flamini and Wilshere are all fully fit now and should all be involved although the hosts will be without Alex-Oxalade-Chamberlain, Miyaichi, Diaby, Zelalem, Podolski and Sanogo for this match as they all continue to recover from respective injury problems.

Marseille Team News:

Marseille are without just Ayew for this match as he continue recover from injury, but other than this manager Elie Baup can play pretty much a full strength side for this one.

Arsenal v Marseille Head to Head Statistics:

Arsenal have the clear advantage going into this game as they have already beaten Marseille over in France a couple of months ago in the reverse fixture of the group and now with home advantage the expected result should be another comfortable home win for Arsene Wenger’s side.

Average Goals Per Game ?

There has only been an average of 1.30 Goals in their last 3 meetings, but given the situation for both sides on Tuesday night I would expect at least a couple of goals to be scored in this match as with this  a must win game for Arsenal to secure progression through the next stage of the tournament they should prove too strong for Marseille and score at least a couple during this one.

Arsenal v Marseille Recent Form (Last 5 Results Left to Right)

Arsenal: L W W L W

Marseille: L D L W W

Arsenal have a slight advantage on the recent form stats having managed 3 victories from their last 5 games played. Marseille have managed 2 victories from their last 5 played with both sides having suffered 2 defeats each.

Arsenal v Marseille Match Betting Odds Market

Arsenal are the clear odds on favourites to win this game at a current best price of just 2/7 with Ladbrokes (£30 Free Bets for New Customers) which looks extremely short and no real value despite Marseille having nothing to play for.

The Draw is probably the best result that Marseille can obtain in this one, but even that looks highly unlikely with their defence leaking goals like a sinking ship and the current best odds of 21/4 with BetVictor (£25 Free Bets for New Customers) don’t look likely to attract much interest from the punters.

Marseille have nothing to play for, have been absolutely terrible during this group stage and have more chance of being the first football side to walk on Mars than win this game, so no real shock to see the online bookmakers offering a huge price of 14/1 with BetVictor (£25 Free Bets for New Customers) for them to start astronaut training.

Arsenal v Marseille Betting Predictions:

I think the most likely result of this match is 2-1 to Arsenal as the hosts are more than capable of scoring at least two goals here against a Marseille team that have nothing to play for and can’t defend for toffee.

Marseille could possibly also get on the score sheet here now that the pressure is off as they do have a good squad and will certainly want to finish the group strongly despite having already been eliminated.

Arsenal striker Oliver Giroud is in excellent goal scoring form heading into this match having scored a brace at the weekend and he looks well worth a small interest to grab one in this game on Tuesday night

I also think the 1st Half should see a couple of goals scored in because Marseille had this in their game against Napoli and Arsenal tend to score early when having home advantage.

An entertaining game in prospect, but one that Arsenal should win in comfortable fashion which will book their place into the knock-out stage of the competition.
