Club Brugge v Manchester United Preview, Champions League, Qualification, Wednesday 26th August 2015

Club Brugge will feel hard done by after their trip to Old Trafford last week, coming away with a 2 – 1 defeat would of been far better and given them more of a chance at home come Wednesday night. Sadly for the Belgian side Manchester Uniteds own Belgian giant, Marouane Fellaini, soon killed off much hope with a last second header giving the English club a well deserved 3 – 1 victory. That said the Belgium fans at home are a passionate lot and if they are on song this Wednesday it could be enough to see their side attempt a fight back, however impossible that does seem against a side such as Manchester United. Club Brugge are being given some nice odds right now regarding the win, although it all depends on the fact of giving your hard earned cash away. Especially seeing as though the club lost in their domestic league over the weekend.

Manchester United have been in the news a lot this week especially since the home draw against Newcastle United in which they struggled to score any goals. Wayne Rooney is once again under the spotlight and being questioned in regards to his fitness, confidence and more which I feel is a little harsh on the England international. It can’t be held in denial though that the club are in need of someone prolific in front of goal, and have recently been linked with Brazilian wonder kid Neymar of Barcelona. Which as you can imagine is rather ridiculous especially as all signs are pointing towards Neymar’s agent just trying to get his client a new improved contract. Manchester United are the bookmakers favourites to win Wednesday night and defensively I cannot see them making the same mistake in regards to letting in any goals. Last weeks own goal was a freak event and United are showing that their defence is still very solid even without any marquee defensive additions to the squad.

Club Brugge Team News:

Club Brugge will be missing centre back Brandon Mechele after being sent off in the away leg at Old Trafford. The defender was sent off with ten minutes remaining after being on the end of two yellow cards in the space of ten minutes. The club will be hoping midfielder Victor Vazquez will be more of an influence in the home leg even though the Spaniard still had a good game against United in the first leg.

Manchester United Team News:

Phil Jones is still sidelined due to mild thrombosis in his legs although should be back soon hopefully. The Manchester Uniteds defence however has been pretty solid with Chris Smalling having a fantastic start to the season playing alongside Daley Blind who has also been very solid. Marouane Fellaini will no doubt feature again somewhere and we could even see Marcos Rojo who has yet to play this season due to a lack of fitness.

Club Brugge v Manchester United Head to Head Statistics:

The two sides have only played each other once so far which was of course the first leg at Old Trafford, in which the English side won 3 – 1 even though Club Brugge did play rather well. The second leg on Wednesday night should see Manchester United through to the group stages and although they are 3 – 1 ahead on aggregate I would of still fancied them to come out on top in Belgium.

Previous Average Goals Per Game Statistics

With them only playing the once recently the actual goals per game average will be something I wouldn’t of bet on. That said four goals were scored at Old Trafford and is the average goals per game statistic. Wednesday date I do feel we could easily see three to four goals scored again, so the below option would be a good selection in my eyes.

Manchester United: D W W W L

Manchester United are by far the better team in form here even though they did drop points to Newcastle United last weekend at Old Trafford. Club Brugge have now lost two on the trot and will seriously need to improve if they wish to retain their crown come the end of the Belgian season.

Club Brugge v Manchester United Match Betting Odds Market

Club Brugge may well be at home on Wednesday night, yet are still considered the outsiders to grab the win against Manchester United. If they had a better result at Old Trafford I do feel they would of had a better chance driven by the confidence gained. The Draw I feel is the best Club Brugge could hope for in this second leg although I don’t feel Manchester United would agree seeing as though they will be intending to pick up their form after dropping points in the Premiership at the weekend. Club Brugge v Manchester United Match Predictions, Banker Tips & First Goal Scorer Bets

European action this Wednesday can be seen live in Belgium on BT Sports new Europe channel with Gary Lineker as its host. The game will feature Manchester United against Club Brugge for the second leg in which United currently lead 3 – 1 on aggregate. Brugge could of come into this game only one goal behind United yet sadly for them they conceded again with not even a second remaining on the clock. The referee looked like he was about to blow his whistle yet decided to allow the ball to be played into the box in which Marouane Fellaini towered above all and headed home.

Club Brugge lost at the weekend against Zulte-Waregem away from home and would of preferred a better result against them coming into this second leg against such a strong side as Manchester United. The club are now sixth with just seven points to their name which hasn’t seen the best start to their title defence. Manchester United however were in winning form up until they welcomed Newcastle United to Old Trafford at the weekend. The game ended goalless after the ninety minutes and once again Wayne Rooney comes under the spotlight by the critics for not playing at his potential best.

My predictions for Wednesday nights game does of course see Manchester United dominate even though Club Brugge will once again come out and play attacking football. That however could be their downfall seeing as though a club like United tend to hit teams on the counter attack and is a side of their game seen for so many years under the likes of Sir Alex Ferguson. Any my first prediction will see Manchester United win the game without conceding a goal, with the next once again backing Wayne Rooney to score his first goal of the campaign and win the game.
