Barnsley v Everton Preview, Capital One Cup, Wednesday 26th August 2015

Barnsley are doing ok in league one having won two, drawn one and lost one of their opening four matches at the beginning of the new season and although they face a very tough challenge at home on Wednesday night against premiership side Everton, I would expect the Barnsley players and fans to be in confident mood about causing an upset despite the club having only ever made it through to the 4th round once in their history of the competiton.

Everton are also doing ok at this early stage of the season on the domestic front in the premiership and although they did suffer a 2-0 defeat at home against Manchester City over the weekend just gone, they certainly caused their visitors a few problems during the game and if the referee had awarded them a penalty which they clearly deserved, the result could of been a lot different.

Everton manager Roberto Martinez will probably use this game as a chance to provide some of his youngsters and fringe players a chance to shine, so I would not expect a strong Everton starting eleven for this game, but even so, they should still have enough quality to get the job done.

Barnsley Team News:

The hosts will be without Ryan Williams for this game as the player is receiving treatment for a groin problem. There are also some doubts over this season’s on loan players from other clubs, but most are expected to be available and the club is just waiting on news from Arsenal for permission allowing Jack Crowley to be involved.

Everton Team News:

The visitors will still be without Leighton Baines (ankle), Steven Pienaar (hamstring), Tony Hibbert (knee) and Darron Gibson (foot) and with Brendan Galloway having sustained a knee injury in Sunday’s defeat to Manchester City we should see Bryan Oviedo start his first game of the season. Kevin Mirallas is also likely to feature and although some key players may be rested for this game, I do expect manager Roberto Martinez to name a relatively strong side for this one.

Barnsley v Everton Head to Head Statistics:

Wednesday night’s game from Oakwell Stadium will become only the third ever meeting between the two clubs over the years and as we can see from our head to head statistics table shown below, it has been Everton who have enjoyed the better results having won one and drawn one with Barnsley having failed to win any.

With the huge difference in squads it does seem unlikely that those statistics will change despite Everton manager Roberto Martinez probably opting to play a lot of youngsters and fringe players in this one as the club concentrates on the bigger prize which is the Premier League this season.

Previous Average Goals Per Game Statistics

6 Goals have been scored in the previous 2 matches played between the two clubs, which provides us with an average goals statistic of exactly 3.00.

4 of those Goals have been scored in the 1 previous match played between the two clubs at Oakwell Stadium, which generates us with an average goals per game statistic of 4.00.

Both sets of data seem to indicate that we should be in for a minimum of at least two or three goals scored in this game on Wednesday night.

Barnsley v Everton Recent Form All Competitions (Left to Right)

Barnsley: L W W W D

Everton: L L D W L

Barnsley have a clear advantage on the recent form statistics, but it does seem an impossible task for them to beat this Everton side despite not being at full strength and unfortunately for Barnsley fans this looks an away banker win come Wednesday night.

Barnsley v Everton Match Betting Odds Market

Barnsley are two leagues below their visitors and although they do hold the advantage on the recent form statistics their current best price available of 5/1 with Bet365 – £200 Matched Bonus Bets for New Customers, to win this game on Wednesday night does reflect their chances of being very  slim indeed.

The Draw has happened once between the two clubs in the only other two previous meetings but given the strength of the Everton squad even this seems a long shot at best and this is available at a current best price of 16/5 with BetFred – Bet £10 & Receive £30 Free Bets Bets for New Customers.

Everton are priced up as the clear odds on favourites to wint his game at current best odds of 8/13 with BetVictor – Receive £50 Free Bets for New Customers which looks about right considering the huge gap in class between the two sides.

Barnsley v Everton Match Predictions, Banker Tips & First Goal Scorer Bets

Every Barnsley player taking to the Oakwell Stadium pitch on Wednesday night will certainly be fired up and have belief that they can cause a huge upset in this game and although I do expect the hosts to give it their best, the quality of Everton will no doubt eventually prevail in the end.

Everton’s starting lineup is not going to be as strong as it could be, but the players coming in will see this as their chance to prove something to Martinez and I fully expect Everton to be the side going through to the next round of the tournament.

Everton look good value at their current odds on offer, but I think there is even better value by taking them on the Asian Handicap as I would expect them to win this game by at least two clear goals on the night and this is going to be my Banker Free Tip selection for this match.

My First Goalscorer Free Tip is going to be for Kevin Mirallas to Score the First Goal of the match as for me he is definitely a player that should be involved in the starting lineup for Everton this season in the league as the player always delivers when asked and this cup tie will be right up his street.

An exciting game in prospect and one that should see it’s fair share of goals grace the back of the nets, but for me this has Away Banker Win written all over it.
