Manchester United v Chelsea Preview, Premiership, Monday 26th August 2013

Manchester United were extremely impressive in their opening day victory away to Swansea City and Robin Van Persie even more so with his fantastic brace during that game and although now under a new manager in David Moyes, it still seems that it is going to take a very talented team to stop Manchester United defending their Premiership Title this season.

Chelsea however, now under the guidance of the Jose Mourinho will certainly believe that they are that club and after two successive victories on the bounce now lead the way at the top of the Premiership league table, although many people will agree that they were very lucky to have won their midweek game against Aston Villa.

Manchester United v Chelsea Team News

Manchester United Team News:

Manager David Moyes will have pretty much a full strength squad to choose his starting eleven from with the only two players missing being Ashley Young and Darren Fletcher who are both still receiving treatment for respective injuries. Wayne Rooney showed that he is far from happy at the club by not celebrating his goal scored against Swansea City last weekend and he could be missing from the starting lineup for this game.

Chelsea Team News:

Manager Jose Mourinho also has a full squad to choose from with the exception of defender Tomas Kalas who is out for at least another couple of weeks recovering from a fractured fibula. Fernando Torres didn’t even make the subs bench for the midweek game against Aston Villa and does look unlikely to make the starting lineup for this game having not impressed the new manager.

Who Has The Advantage?

Monday night’s game between Manchester United and Chelsea will become the 151st meeting between the two clubs that has taken place over the years, of which Manchester United have won 63, Chelsea have won 46 and there has been 41 draws.

Recent meetings shown in our head to head statistics table above show Chelsea with a clear advantage having won 3 of the previous 5 matches played, with Manchester United managing to win just 1. The remaining game finished all square.

Average Goals Per Game?

441 goals have been scored in the previous 150 games played between the two clubs which provides us with an average goals per game statistic of 2.94 which suggests that we should see at least a couple of goals scored in this one on Monday night under the flood lights.

Manchester United v Chelsea Recent Form

Manchester United: W D L W W

Chelsea: W W L W W

Chelsea just edge the recent form statistics having won 4 of their last 5 games played with just one defeat coming against Real Madrid in a pre-season friendly. Manchester United have won 3 and have also only lost just the one game during their last 5 matches, this coming against Sevilla 3-1 also in a pre-season friendly.

Manchester United v Chelsea Match Betting Odds Market.

Manchester United have the all important home advantage and were very impressive in their opening day 4-1 victory away against Swansea City so the online bookmakers have decided to make David Moyes’ side the slight favourites to win this game on Monday night with a current best price of 6/4 with BetVictor – £25 Free Bets for New Customers available.

The Draw is certainly a possible outcome in this game as there is very little to separate the two sides and this will surely attract plenty of interest from punters at a current best price of 5/2 with Betfred – £10 Free Bets, No Deposit Required for New Customers.

Chelsea do have a good record against Manchester United over recent years and having already secured maximum points from their opening two games they will be confident of adding to that come Monday night and at a current best price of 21/10 with Stan James – £10 Free Bets for New Customers, I can certainly see some punters getting on at those odds.

Manchester United v Chelsea Match Predictions, Tips & First Goal Scorer Bets.

This will be a game that will attract a very large audience and on all the information gathered one that could go either way on the night up in Manchester.

I was extremely impressed with Manchester United’s victory against Swansea City last weekend as the Liberty Stadium is a very difficult place to go and win games, just ask Georgian league champions Petrolul Ploieşti who were hammered 5-1 there midweek in the Europa League and with a certain Robin Van Persie carrying on from where he left off last season by scoring incredible world class goals Manchester United for me are the side to be on here to win this game.

Chelsea have won their opening two games, but they were very fortunate midweek against Aston Villa to win that game and having played a game more than their hosts and having had to make the 210 mile journey up to Manchester to play this game I can certainly see some of the Chelsea players not being able to last the whole 90mins at what is expected to be a frantic pace.

The goal stats suggest at least a couple of goals to be scored, so betting markets like Both Teams to Score, Total Match Goals and Anytime Goal Scorers should all provide some value.
