Germany v Slovakia Preview, Euro 2016 Finals, Last 16, Sunday 26th June 2016

Germany reached the last 16 of the tournament as group winners having won two and drawn one of their three matches played and although they have not yet really played anything like we have expected them too, they have still managed to get the job done and concede just three times.

Germany are one of the powerhouse teams of the tournament and many people are expecting them to go all the way to the final and Slovakia will have to be at their very best to have any real chance of progressing any further in the tournament.

Slovakia reached this last 16 round of the tournament as one of the four best third place teams having won one, drawn one and lost one of their three group matches played. They were very defensive in their final game of the group against England and were lucky not to have lost the match which was mainly down to poor finishing from the England players.

This is certainly their toughest test of the tournament so far and their star player Hamsik will need to do much better than what he have seen from him in those three group matches played if his side are to be the ones heading through to the quarter finals.

Germany Team News:

Germany have pretty much a full team available to them but must wait on a late fitness report on Boateng to see if he can feature in this game as he has been struggling with a calf problem picked up in their 1-0 win against Northern Ireland in their last match played.

Thomas Muller has still yet to score his first ever European Championship goal despite having a couple of great chances against Northern Ireland, but it will surely only be a matter of time before he does and he will lead the attack up front alongside Mario Gomez.

Slovakia Team News:

Slovakia also have almost a full squad available for this game but will be waiting on results of fitness tests from Tomas Hubocan, Dusan Svento and Robert Mak.

Germany v Slovakia Head to Head Statistics:

Sunday evening’s last 16 match from the Stade Pierre Mauroy in Lille Métropole will become the 6th meeting between the two nations over recent years and as we can see from our head to head statistics table below, it has been Germany who have a slight advantage heading into this one as they have managed two victories compared to Slovakia having recorded just the one.

Germany v Slovakia Match Betting Odds Market

Germany are the clear odds on favourites to win this game with a current best price available of 4/9 with Bet365 – Receive £200 Matched Bonus Bets for New Customers Registering an Account and although this does look a bit short, I can definitely see the big hitters getting on this.

The Draw is a current best price of 10/3 with BetFred – Bet £10 & Receive £30 Free Bets for New Customers Registering an Account but with their recent five meetings having not had any draws, this does look unlikely.

Slovakia will probably adapt another very defensive formation for this game and try to hit Germany on the counter attack but I really can’t see them winning this match and their current odds on offer of 9/1 with Coral – Bet £5 & Receive £20 Free Bets for New Customers Registering an Account, pretty much reflect their chances of making it through to the quarter finals stage.

Germany v Slovakia Match Predictions, Tips & First Goal Scorer Bets.

Germany might take a bit of time to break down the Slovakia defence, but I don’t expect them to struggle like England did as with Mario Gomez leading the attack up front they have the height to win headers in the box and I can’t really see the Slovakian defence being able to keep the germans out for long.

Slovakia might have a better chance if they were to play a more attacking formation as we have seen this German defence struggle at times at the back and it certainly wouldn’t surprise me to see Slovakia scoring in this game if they did push people forward.

However, I don’t see one goal being enough for Slovakia and I fully expect Joachim Low’s side to secure their place in yet another European Championship’s quarter final.

Onto some predictions then and my Banker Free Tip is going to be for Thomas Muller to Score Anytime and Germany to Win, as for me he has to get his name on the score-sheet soon and with having been unlucky to not have converted one of this two great chances against Northern Ireland, I expect him to make up for that in this one.

My First Goalscorer Free Tip will be for Mario Gomez to score the First Goal of the Game as he has both the height and power to really trouble the Slovakian defence and he will be brimming with confidence having scored the only goal of the game against Northern Ireland last time out.
