Manchester City v Real Madrid Preview, Champions League, Semi-Final 1st Leg, Tuesday 26th April 2016.

With Manchester City now finding some good form could it be late in their season that things start to turn around and see them once again as one of the top teams in Europe? It’s a tough ask especially with them now facing one of Spain’s and the worlds most elite teams in Real Madrid, although they themselves haven’t exactly had the best seasons having had a poor start. Tuesday nights home fixture wont certainly be easy but City must make the most of the home tie as the second leg in Spain will not be easy.

As for the Premier League we could see Manchester City punish Arsenal further when they get to play them at The Etihad stadium early August, as although they have slipped down into forth position, a loss to Manchester City could allow Manchester United to climb above and claim that fourth place Champions League spot. That said Manchester City don’t have any easier games left, with two away fixtures to Southampton and then Swansea City who are hoping they are safe from relegation.

Spanish giants Real Madrid made big work of their quarter final tie to Bundesliga side Wolfsburg and things looked worrying at first when they lost 2 – 0 in Germany. The home leg was a must win and of course without conceding a goal and we can safely say Cristiano Ronaldo and team didn’t disappoint when the Portuguese international stepped up and scored a prolific hat-trick. The 3 – 0 win was just enough to take Real Madrid into the semi-finals and if they can see off Manchester City could potentially face fellow Spanish side Atletico Madrid in the final once again.

With Barcelona losing a few La Liga games recently we have seen them allow Atletico and Real Madrid to catch up and with just three games left to play any of the three could win the league. Real Madrid are just behind on points with one adrift and do have a couple of potentially hard games with Valencia and Real Sociedad. Although to be fair the remaining three games should see Real Madrid claim all nine points available and keeping up the pressure on the two clubs above them.

Manchester City Team News:

In the news we can already see that Yaya Toure will miss the home leg against Real Madrid having picked up an injury in the 4 – 0 win over Stoke City on Saturday. Manager Pellegrini has said the midfielder will not recover in time from his muscle injury and could also miss the game against Southampton next Sunday. Club captain Vincent Kompany has been plagued all season with a calf injury, yet could make his return against Real Madrid on Tuesday night. We have also seen David Silva return to training but still await news on if he will be available for selection.

Real Madrid Team News:

The main news recently is if Cristiano Ronaldo will be fit enough to face Manchester City on Tuesday having missed the game against Rayo Vallecano with a muscle injury on Saturday. We also can see striker Karim Benzema is back and available for Real Madrid on Tuesday, with the goalscorer spending some time out with an injury. Both however will still be hit and miss and face late fitness tests before Tuesdays Champions League fixture.

Manchester City v Real Madrid Head to Head Statistics:

Sadly we only have three fixtures where these two teams have met and its bad news for English side City who have failed to beat the Spanish Giants. We have through the years always seen British teams struggle against the Spanish, so could that change in this semi final? Real Madrid have won twice and drawn the once against Manchester City and although they are the favourites, they are not set as solid favourites.

Previous Average Goals Per Game Statistics

With just three games played out between these two massive clubs we have seen a total of twelve goals scored. This is going to give us a high goals per game average of 4 and if we see more of the same come Tuesday then we are in for a hell of a game at The Etihad. Although there were five goals scored last time these two met in Manchester, I believe that the below option would be a more safer bet.

Both clubs are in some good form right now and both currently sit third in their domestic leagues. Real Madrid however do have the better form with them winning eleven and losing the once from the clubs last twelve games. That loss was of course in the away leg to Wolfsburg in the last round of the Champions League although they did redeem themselves with a 3 – 0 home win over the Bundesliga side.

Manchester City v Real Madrid Match Betting Odds Market

Manchester City may well be in some good form recently and also at home for this first leg in the semi final of the Champions League, yet are still not favourites coming into this game. The best odds on Manchester City actually winning this game can be found coming in here @ 2/1 with Bet365 – Get up to a £200 Matched Bet when Registering a New Account

The Draw I feel could very well be a solid option especially as both clubs are playing some nice football recently. Neither will want to lose this game and knowing Real Madrid they certainly wont hold back and go all out for the win in this away leg. Best odds on the draw happening can be seen coming in here @ 5/2 with Betvictor – £25 Free Bets For New Customers Registering an Account.

Real Madrid are the bookmakers favourites to win this first leg in Manchester even though they did lose on their travels in Germany in the quarter finals. Manchester City v Real Madrid Match Predictions, Banker Tips & First Goal Scorer Bets

It’s back to Champions League action this Tuesday with England’s last team in the competition Manchester City set to face Real Madrid at The Etihad Stadium for the first leg. With the way Manchester City have been playing could we see them upset Real Madrid on Tuesday, much like Wolfsburg did in Germany for the first leg of the quarter finals? Potentially the answer is yes, although City are not the bookmakers favourites to actually win the match. With the away team win or the draw the preferred option.

Manchester City as stated are also set to keep hold of third place in the Premier League after finally wrestling it off of Arsenal who failed to beat Sunderland on Sunday with the two ending the game goalless. With Southampton and Swansea City the clubs only away games left I still feel Manchester City will win these, and I can only imagine the home game against Arsenal in August will be that game to determine who ends up third, fourth and fifth with Manchester United also poking their noses in to the mix.

Real Madrid themselves still have a chance of lifting the La Liga trophy at the end of the season with three games left to play for them, Atletico Madrid and Barcelona still left. Real Madrid are just one point behind the other two who are both on joint points, with Barcelona top of the pile due to goal difference. The last three games is sure to provide some incredible excitement especially as Barcelona decided the lose three and draw the once this month. A silly mistake the club could regret although the do seem to have rekindled their form with the last two games ending with massive wins.

Real Madrid are coming in as the second favourites to go on and actually win the Champions League, with Bayern Munich set as the bookmakers favourites. Manchester City on the other hand are the bookies last choice with the odds on them actually winning the competition more than double that of Atletico Madrid’s odds. So it could be a worthwhile option to place a sneaky bet on the English side as we all know how well they can play at times.

My predictions for this semi final first leg in England does in fact back that of the draw, as I think it would be a good option as a banker and of course we could easily see both sides scoring on the night, which wont be a good result for the home side Manchester City at all. My other option is to back that of how many goals are scored on the night. Now although they have only met three times and the goals per game average is that of four, it isn’t my preferred choice with me thinking more on the lines of two to three goals being scored on the night.
