Manchester United v Norwich City Preview, Premiership, Saturday 26th April 2014

What an embrassing season it has been for Manchester United fans and players, not only have they no chance of defending their Premiership league title that they won last season under the guidance of Alex Ferguson, any chance of qualification to the Champions League and even the Europa League has now also gone and so it came as no real surprise to see manager David Moyes ‘The Chosen One’ sacked earlier this week and replaced by Ryan Giggs.

Norwich City are also having a disappointing season and this is a game they must win if they are to avoid becoming a casualty of relegation back down into the Championship as manager Chris Hughton’s side are only 2pts above both Cardiff City and Fulham and although they are 3pts ahead of Sunderland, Gus Poyet’s side do have a game in hand, so the importance of getting at least something from this game on saturday evening could be crucial as to whether or not we see Norwich City playing Premiership football next season.

Manchester United Team News:

The hosts could still be without Rafael and Robin Van Persie for this game as although both players have resumed some sort of light training, it doesn’t look likely that either will be risked for this game now that the season is over for Manchester United football club.

Wayne Rooney could also be missing as he is rested to give his chipped bone in his toe a chance to heal properly for this summers World Cup tournament over in Brazil and this would mean that want away striker Danny Welbeck could find himself leading the attack up front on saturday evening.

Norwich City Team News:

Joseph Yobo is the only main casualty for manager Chris Hughton to contend with as the player continues to receive treatment for a calf injury. Gary Hooper will lead the attack up front with support in behind being provided by Robert Snodgrass and both players will be looking for their 7th goal of the season.

Manchester United v Norwich City Head to Head Statistics:

Saturday evening’s game from Old Trafford will become the 49th meeting between the two clubs over the years, of which Manchester United have won 29 times (17 at Old Trafford). Norwich City have won 9 times (3 at Old Trafford) and there has been 10 draws (3 at Old Trafford).

The recent head to head statistics below show us that Manchester United have a commanding advantage in the previous five meetings between the two clubs having managed to win 4 times with Norwich City only having managed just the 1 victory.

28/12/13 PRL Norwich City – Manchester United 0 : 1
29/10/13 LEC Manchester United – Norwich City 4 : 0
02/03/13 PRL Manchester United – Norwich City 4 : 0
17/11/12 PRL Norwich City – Manchester United 1 : 0
26/02/12 PRL Norwich City – Manchester United
1 : 2

Previous Average Goals Per Game Statistics

113 Goals have been scored in the previous 48 matches played between the two clubs overall, which provides us with an average goals per game statistic of 2.35.

53 of those Goals have been scored in the 24 matches played between the two clubs at Old Trafford, which gives us an average goals per game statistic of 2.20.

Looking at both statistics above it seems to suggest that this game on saturday evening might only see a maximum of maybe 1 or 2 goals scored.

Manchester United v Norwich City Recent Form (Left to Right)

Manchester United: W D W L L

Norwich City: W L L L L

Manchester United have a slight advantage in the recent form statistics having managed to win 2, draw 1 and lose 2 of their 5 previous games played, compared to Norwich City who have won 1, drawn 0 and lost 3 of their last 5 matches played.

Manchester United v Norwich City Match Betting Odds Market

Manchester United have had a season to forget and with nothing left of the season to play for it does surprise me to see the online bookmakers going such a short price for them to win this game on saturday evening as for me their current best price available of 2/5 with Paddy Power (£50 Free Bets for New Customers) is no value at all for a side that has struggled this season.

The Draw has not happened in any of the previous five meetings between the two clubs, but with Norwich City desperate to get at least something from this game and the Manchester United players probably more interested in where they are going to be sunning it up on the beach, there is a very good chance that we might see this game finish all square and at a current best price of 21/5 with BetVictor (£25 Free Bets for New Customers) it might well be worth having this down as your main cover bet.

Norwich City were quite unlucky last weekend when losing 3-2 against Liverpool at Carrow Road, but if anything that performance will have all the players confident of finishing the season strong and for me their current best price of 17/2 with Bet365 (£200 Matched Bonus Bets for New Customers) to win this game does look overpriced in my opinion.

Manchester United v Norwich City Match Predictions, Tips & First Goal Scorer Bets.

Difficult to see any of the Manchester United players really being up for this game on saturday evening and with rumours of Wayne Rooney to be rested for the rest of the season it begs the question of where the Manchester United goals will come from in this game.

Out of favour and want away striker Danny Welbeck could be the answer though as he will certainly feel he has a point to prove in this game if given the nod by stand in manager Ryan Giggs to start this match and with his place in the England squad far from certain at the moment for the upcoming World Cup in Brazil this summer I would expect Welbeck to be the main player for United this weekend.

Norwich City were desperately unlucky against Liverpool last weekend and although they lost the game 3-2, the way they fought back from being 2-0 down after just 11 minutes was testament to their character and they will certainly fancy their chances of being another club this season to cause a major upset at Old Trafford.

Chris Hughton’s side are fighting for their Premiership survival and really would need at least a point to guarantee them from becoming dragged into the bottom three and as such I am expecting Norwich City to have a real go at Manchester United in this game.

My Banker prediction for this game was quite an easy choice to make given the performances of both sides recently and I am going to go with Both Teams to Score and although this is slightly odds on I really feel that this prediction could see up picking up some early profit from the game.

My Saver is going to be Manchester United to Win & Both Teams to Score which is available at generous odds from Coral.
