Manchester United v Southampton Preview, League Cup Final, 26th February 2017

Manchester United head into this game on Sunday afternoon having had a good season so far in the premiership league and still very much in contention of a top four finish. United have won 13, drawn 9 and lost 3 of their 25 matches played and have secured 48pts in the process which currently has them placed in 6th position.

United made it through to this final having secured a 3-2 aggregate victory over the two legs played in the semi final against Hull City but looked far from impressive during that second leg match in which they lost 2-1 and would need to play much better if they are to win this game.

Southampton head into the game having had what can only be called a very frustrating season so far in the league and are just 9pts safe from becoming involved in a relegation fight for survival. Southampton have won 8, drawn 6 and lost 11 of their 25 matches played and have secured 30pts which has them currently placed in 13th position.

Southampton made it through to this final with an impressive 2-0 aggregate victory over the two legs played in their semi final against Liverpool, winning both games by a 1-0 score-line and although their league form has been suffering recently, the players will no doubt be in confident mood of causing a bit of an upset come Sunday afternoon.

Manchester United Team News :

Wayne Rooney and Michael Carrick are available for Sunday’s EFL Cup final, but Henrikh Mkhitaryan will be absent for Manchester United.

United captain Rooney missed the midweek Europa League trip to St Etienne as he returned to fitness, but has been confirmed as part of the squad heading to Wembley.

Southampton Team News :

Martin Caceres and Sofiane Boufal (ankle) are hoping to be included in the Southampton squad, with the Uruguay defender potentially making his debut after his recent move to the Saints as a free agent.

However, Virgil van Dijk, Charlie Austin, Alex McCarthy, Matt Targett and Jeremy Pied all miss out through injury.

Manchester United v Southampton Match Predictions, Banker Tips & First Goal Scorer Bets

If we look at what both clubs have done so far this season and then compare those results with our findings from the head to head statistics, everything does strongly point towards a Manchester United victory in this game.

United head into this match having won all of their previous five matches played and the confidence at the club will be sky high in both the players and their fans. United are no strangers to winning trophies and although the club has gone through a barron patch of late, it would come as a bit of shock to quite a lot of people if they didn’t manage to win this game on Sunday afternoon.

Southampton are having a poor season in the league and although they did look a very different team during their two legged semi final 2-0 victory against Liverpool, it’s difficult to see them really causing this United side too many problems in this one.

Their recent form has not been great and they really would need United to have a very bad day indeed to have any real hope of securing what would be their first ever league cup victory.

Onto some predictions then and my Banker Free Tip for this game is going to be for Manchester United to Win as they are far the team in form at the moment and with the experienced players that they have in their side who are no strangers to cup finals, they should prove too strong for Southampton in this one.

My First Goalscorer Free Tip for this game will be for Manchester United striker Zlatan Ibrahimovic to Score the 1st Goal of the Game as he will be relishing the chance to score his first ever goal in an English cup final to add to his already impress CV.
