Hull City v Sheffield Wednesday Preview , Championship, Friday 26th February 2016.

It’s looking much more positive for Hull City who are now top of the Championship and hoping to get straight back into Premier League action after being relegated last season. On top of that the club managed to hold Arsenal to a goalless draw at The Emirates in the FA Cup 5th Round and now face them in the replay at home beginning of March.

In regards to the league they are currently only one point clear of Burnley yet do have a game in hand which I am sure they hope to turn into three points when the time comes. The next five games will prove to be tough for Steve Bruce’s side who also face promotion chasing sides Birmingham City as well as Sheffield Wednesday on Friday. Brentford and MK Don’s should be routine football for Hull who are at home for both.

Sheffield Wednesday find themselves in a play-off position currently which hasn’t happened in some time, and will certainly be fighting to stay in there with the prize of a promotion place up for grabs. They have managed to take points off of fellow promotion hopefuls Birmingham City and Burnley, yet did slip up against Preston North End a week ago.

The next five games see’s Wednesday play three times away from home, with Hull City and Brighton & Hove Albion being seen as unlikely winners. They should however be able to take points off of relegation battling side Rotherham United as well as Charlton Athletic. With Nottingham Forest away being the only game that could go either way.

Hull City Team News:

Steve Bruce’s side are thankful they have no injury worries ahead of Fridays game against Sheffield Wednesday, although could rotate to keep it fresh with them playing so many games lately due to the FA Cup. Meyler has been a boost since his return and managed his first league start in six weeks and could very well feature again on Friday.

Sheffield Wednesday Team News:

Top scorer Fernando Forestieri was suspended in the draw against Queens Park Rangers, yet is available to play against league leaders Hull City on Friday, which is a massive boost to The Owls. Sam Hutchinson has returned from injury and likely to go straight back into the starting lineup.

Hull City v Sheffield Wednesday Head to Head Statistics:

In the last five games played we can see the end results tend to favour that of a draw with three ending as such. The two have also beaten each other once, yet strangely not at home and only on their travels. In total we have only 13 games recorded between the two, with Hull City enjoying the most wins with 6. Sheffield Wednesday have won just three leaving the remaining 4 games ending as draws.

Previous Average Goals Per Game Statistics

In the 13 games played out between these two Championship sides we have seen a total of 27 goals scored. This is going to give us a goals per game average of 2 goals per game which as you can see above is very hit and miss. I am however going to trust in that statistic for Fridays game and go for the below selection.

Hull City have been in fine form lately with them returning to the top of the Championship table and also holding Arsenal to a goalless draw away from home in the FA Cup 5th Round. That’s not to take it away from Sheffield Wednesday however, who are enjoying life just being in the play-off positions, something they hope to continue come the end of the season.

Hull City v Sheffield Wednesday Match Predictions, Tips & First Goal Scorer Bets.

Championship action this Friday can be viewed live on Sky Sports 1 and in High Definition, and features two sides who are hoping to earn a place in among the three spots available to move up to the worlds biggest and most famous league. Hull City are actually leading the pack with one game in hand and also one point clear ahead of Burnley who like Hull, were also relegated last season.

Hull City are the favourites to win on Friday night even though their opponents did beat them at home a couple of seasons ago. Hull did however still manage to earn promotion yet sadly did also come straight back down with them coming in eighteenth, three points away from being able to stay up at the expense of Aston Villa.

Sheffield Wednesday have only experienced one season in the Premier League, with it being renamed from the First Division to the Premier League in 1999 – 2000 season. Sheffield Wednesday were relegated that season coming second from bottom and experiencing some embarrassing loses much like the 8 – 0 thrashing against Newcastle United.

Yet could we finally see a club return to the big league, with them always before that being a top flight team? The odds of them earning promotion back to the Premier League are very reasonable right now with the bookmakers actually in favour of them achieving such. It is likely to be via winning the play-offs however, with them actually winning the league out right seen as almost impossible at 150/1.

My predictions for this game does actually see the home side Hull City win, and win with ease at that. Don’t get me wrong I do feel Sheffield Wednesday are in good form and I also hope to see them end up in the play-offs come the end of the season. It’s just that Hull City are experienced enough to win the Championship outright with them also being the current favourites.

So my banker bet will be for both teams to score and for Hull City to win the game at the end of 90 minutes. The next I am going for is for there to only be two goals scored in the game. I was thinking of taking a 2 – 0 to Hull City, or for the two clubs to draw 1 – 1. But instead will just take the below with the odds being reasonable.
