Besiktas v Liverpool Preview, Europa League, Last 32 2nd Leg, Thursday 26th February 2015.

Besiktas will feel hard done by when they visited England to face Liverpool in the first leg as they fell prey to a controversial penalty. It came in the 85th minute of the game and although some might say Liverpool eventually earned it, the result will still be bitter with Besiktas working hard all game. Since then Besiktas have lost their recent game with them having worked hard to be in good form with four wins on the trot before the first leg. The Turks will know that Liverpool will not fancy coming to their ground with all visitors facing the usual hostilities from the home crowd, which as often gets seen, could play into their favour with them looking to overturn the 1 – 0 aggregate.

Liverpool were exceptional at the weekend with them beating tough side Southampton 2 – 0 away from home. Which now makes it four wins and a draw from their last five fixtures in all competitions. The last Europa league game at home did see Liverpool eventually win, although it did come with some upset when troublesome Mario Balotelli took the ball off captain Henderson to take the penalty, even though the instructions were already in place that Henderson took the penalties in the absent of injured Steven Gerrard. Balotelli did convert the penalty which was lucky for the Italian, as I could of seen some serious repercussion if the controversial striker missed.

Besiktas Team News:

Manager Slaven Bilic is currently unhappy blaming his side being fatigued with the current fixture congestion. His side lost 1 – 0 at the weekend and see his side knocked off the top of the table. Demba Ba is a doubt with a calf strain while left back Ramon Motta and centre back Ersan Gulum are missing due to suspension, while goalkeeper Tolga Zengin is out due to a knee injury.

Liverpool Team News:

Liverpool have had a number of players missing at their training ground with stand in captain Jordan Henderson being one of them. Mamadou Sakho was another while right back Glen Johnson as also missing from training. We already know Steven Gerrard is certain to miss the second leg following his recovering from a hamstring injury. Sakho currently has a hip issue yet it is unclear why Henderson was missing. Martin Skrtel would be the man to take the armband if Henderson doesn’t feature.

Besiktas v Liverpool  Head to Head Statistics:

We only have three games ever recorded between these two sides, with Liverpool winning overall with two wins and a loss. Back in 2007 Besiktas beat Liverpool at home yet Liverpool returned the favour with an 8 – 0 humiliation at Anfield. We also have the most recent result where Liverpool won 1 – 0 in the 85th minute by a spot kick.

Previous Average Goals Per Game Statistics

In the three games we have recorded there have been a total of 12 goals scored, which is going to give us an average of 4 goals per game. I wouldn’t bank on that statistic though as one of these games ended with Liverpool winning 8 – 0 on the night back in 2007. It would be safer going for 2 or 3 goals scored in the game, or even the selection below.

Besiktas have seen a dip in form after their loss to Liverpool in the first leg, and recently lost to Eskisehirspor 1 – 0 which see them lose their place at the top of the Turkish Super Lig. Liverpool have been exceptional as of late and now won their last four games and drawn the fifth.

Besiktas v Liverpool Match Predictions, Tips & First Goal Scorer Bets.

Europa League second leg action this Thursday will see Liverpool travel to hostile grounds with Besiktas laying in prey in a bid to move into the next round. Yet right now the Turkish side trail by a one goal deficit and hope to fix this with a solid home win of thier own. Yet Slaven Bilic claims his side are currently struggling with fatigue and hopes they can rekindle some fitness in hopes to progress into the next round.

Liverpool are currently in great form and have won four and drawn once out of their last five fixtures in all competitions. Besiktas were in great form before they faced Liverpool at Anfield, yet since then lost in their domestic league to lesser opponents and have now dropped down into second place below Galatasaray. The recent loss bought Slaven Bilic to speak harsh words about the current work load his side have endured.

My predictions for Thursday nights Europa League game will actually see Liverpool win away from home, with the other seeing Besiktas fighting back and earning a draw of some kind. So for the first I am feeling strongly about a Liverpool 2 – 0 win so plan to take a correct scoreline guess. The next I am going for is Besiktas to win or draw while coming from behind.
