Chelsea v Stoke City Preview, FA Cup, Sunday 26th January 2014

Chelsea and Stoke City head into the last all Premiership side battle on Sunday with Jose Mourinho aware of the fact that the last time these two met Stoke City came away with three points. Its not going to be easier this time as any FA Cup game is always looked forward to by the players who seem to step up a few gears on the day. Chelsea are in incredible form right now and haven’t lost in seven games coming into this match. This is a great chance for Chelsea to win some silverware this season and could put them into a position for the double come the end of the season.

Stoke City head into this match on the back of two defeats in recent weeks with the worst of them against Crystal Palace last weekend. Mark Hughes side seem to blow hot and cold and often play better against the stronger Premiership sides as shown this season and many before. This will of course be a huge test as the win at home against Chelsea this year will no doubt play on their minds and lure them into some false confidence if they are not careful.

Chelsea Team News:

Reports are indicating Jose Mourinho may start Demba Ba against Stoke City on Sunday as he hasn’t had a huge amount of play time this season and with Fernando Torres rule out with injury we could see Samuel Eto’o the hat-trick hero against Manchester United rested or on the bench. Juan Mata will undoubtedly not even travel with the club as he is currently in Manchester having his medical for The Red Devils. New expected Chelsea signing Mohamed Salah should sign before Sunday but will not be involved.

Stoke City Team News:

Stoke City have been suffering without their number one keeper Asmir Begovic but he could play on Sunday after recovering from a broken finger. Mark Hughes could be set to start striker Kenwyne Jones after being dropped against Crystal Palace after he refused to play in the loss to Liverpool the week before. We could see Manchester City loan player John Guidetti feature after his debut went okay against Crystal Palace.

Chelsea v Stoke City Head to Head Statistics:

Chelsea have been the better side in the last 5 head to head statistics although Stoke City did manage a memorable win last December. In the 66 games played in total we see Chelsea as the more dominant with 31 wins to Stoke City’s 20. Also we see 15 draws with 9 of them with Stoke City playing at the Bridge.

Chelsea v Stoke City Match Predictions, Tips & First Goal Scorer Bets.

Taking everything into account including the fact that Chelsea did lose against Stoke City in their last meeting I just seriously cannot see Jose Mourinho’s side losing this. But then this is an FA Cup game so any result is possible depending on who turns up on the day and plays the better football.

Stoke City head into this game after two defeats and it wouldn’t have aided in their confidence after losing to Crystal Palace last week. The 5 – 3 loss to Liverpool on the other hand could be excused as Stoke City did play very well but sadly leaked goals far too easily.

So lets get down to some predictions for Sundays game, I do feel Chelsea will win the game without a doubt and I am feeling that we could see a Lampard goal. I am guessing we could see the veteran start after playing backup to Chelsea’s Eden Hazard and the Brazilian Oscar. So my first will be for Frank Lampard to score and Chelsea to win the game. The next is for Chelsea to win and there to be Under 3.5 goals.
