Sunderland v Newcastle United Preview, Premiership, Sunday 25th October 2015.

Although Sunderland were my own personal favourites to go down this year you can’t help but wonder why they are struggling so much. With only three points from nine league games I am starting to ponder just where their first league win of the season is coming from. The club has taken points from Swansea City and West Ham United at home, and then also a rare point away from home to fellow strugglers Aston Villa. Although their bitter rivals Newcastle United are only doing slightly better, they do come into this derby off the back of their first league win all season. I can’t help but think that this Sundays fixture is the only possible chance of earning a point or three in the next five league games. As Everton, Southampton and Crystal Palace will all be tough opponents both home and away.

Newcastle United come into this derby match off the back of an incredible win with them completely destroying Premiership newcomers Norwich City. The game ended 6 – 2 to the home side and we even see four goals scored from new signing Georginio Wijnaldum much to his delight. Club favourite Aleksandar Mitrovi also got on the score sheet as well as Ayoze Perez. Newcastle United’s last five games against Sunderland have all been a complete embarrassment, with the club having lost all both home and away. They will be favourites to earn the win on Sunday, and it will be a valuable victory if achieved as the next four games will certainly not be any easier. Granted they do not have teams such as Chelsea or Manchester City, instead they have the likes of Leicester City and Crystal Palace who are both doing extremely well with them currently in 5th and 6th position.

Sunderland Team News:

Sunderland have a few injury worries right now, with Fabio Borini being one with only a 50% chance of featuring due to a foot injury. Adam Matthews is also currently out after he picked up an ankle injury at the end of August against Exeter in the Capital One Cup. Jack Rodwell missed last weeks game against West Brom with an ankle issue, and is only 75% to make this Sundays fixture. Duncan Watmore also missed out in that match with his hamstring the issue.

Newcastle United Team News:

Newcastle United’s injury list is heavy with a number of first team players all out. Tim Krul has been ruled out for the rest of the season with a knee injury, while Steven Taylor is also long term with a torn hamstring. Gabriel Obertan (hamstring), Curtis Good (hip) and Karl Darlow (ankle) also miss out, while Emmanuel Riviere has been missing all season with his knee. Rolando Aarons (calf) and Sylvain Marveaux (groin) are also reported to be ruled out.

Sunderland v Newcastle United Head to Head Statistics:

For a team who once struggled for so long against their bitter rivals Newcastle, in the last few years we have pretty much seen Sunderland dominate which will certainly be upsetting to the Newcastle United fans. The Newcastle fans haven’t seen a win against Sunderland since way back in 2011 when the club won 1 – 0 away from home. In total we have seen 118 games played out against each other, with Newcastle United still out in front with 44 wins and 39 loses, leaving 35 games as draws of some sort.

Previous Average Goals Per Game Statistics

In the 118 games played out against each other, we have seen a total of 334 goals scored which is going to give us an average of 2.8 goals per game. Three of the five last five games have seen that average come in and lets be honest, after last weekend who knows who will score what after the Newcastle and Norwich City result. I am going to go for the below option.

Both clubs are in dire form right now although you can’t help but give it to Newcastle United after such an impressive win over Norwich City last weekend. That would have to put them in as the bookmakers favourites to win the match, and certainly now is as good time as ever to break such a poor run of results against Sunderland.

Sunderland v Newcastle United Match Betting Odds Market

Sunderland are at home this Sunday and only just considered the favourites to win come the end of the match. They have dominated the last few years but without a current league win this season can they repeat their winning efforts? The Draw hasn’t been seen since back in 2011/12 with Sunderland winning all both home and away since then. Yet I do feel we have a solid chance of seeing the result again considering both clubs recent run of form. Newcastle United did win their first league game of the season last weekend, with a complete destructive performance over Norwich City in a 6 – 2 romp. Could this be the turning point for Newcastle United, who I am sure will fancy their chances come Sunday. Sunderland v Newcastle United Match Predictions, Tips & First Goal Scorer Bets.

Sunday Premiership action comes to us live via Sky Sports 1 High Definition and features one of the leagues most exciting derby’s of all time with Sunderland playing hosts to bitter rivals Newcastle United. We have seen Sunderland win the last five head to head encounters with the last time Newcastle managing a win seen way back in 2011. The two clubs  have always had exciting head to head battles and even though both clubs have been playing dire so far this season, I do feel we could have a game on our hands come Sunday lunchtime.

Sunderland have failed to win a league game all season and are certainly my favourites to go down come the end of the season. Unless the club start grabbing some wins they will most definitely be a Championship side next season, and with the quality they have I just cannot see them coming back up for many years to come. That said they have avoided relegation for the last four seasons, so this year must be their time right? Newcastle United will also be joining them in the lower division if they are also not careful, and currently also occupy a relegation position even though they did manage a rare win last weekend.

My predictions for this derby do tend to lean towards that of Newcastle United for the win, which is only based off last weeks massive victory over Norwich City with eight goals scored in the match. Sunderland haven’t won a game yet to date, and if they were do grab their first win of the season it would certainly be against the likes of their bitter rivals. I’m going to play safe here and go for both teams to score in the game, and also with the two drawing the game come the end of ninety minutes. Would it be too easy to select a first time goal scorer with last weeks hero Georginio Wijnaldum being the selection? I think so and will instead go for Aleksandar Mitrovic to take the honors at the Stadium of Light.
