Southampton v Tottenham Hotspur Preview, Premiership, Saturday 25th April 2015.

There was much talk talk week in regards to Southampton’s chances of qualifying for a European competition next season, and this Saturdays lunchtime kick off at home will certainly be a great chance of earning that right depending on Liverpool’s result. The away loss against Stoke City last week was damaging to their chances, yet a well fought out win against Spurs could eventually seal the deal. In their last five Premiership fixtures Southampton have won and lost twice, as well as drawing 1 – 1 against Chelsea back during March.

Tottenham Hotspurs form this season has had much debate amongst the professionals as they can never seem to go on a run winning a solid amount of games. All season they seem to be trading blows with their opponents and often share the results every time we look at the last five fixtures. For example they have won and lost twice while drawing the once against Burnley, a result which really should of been different when looking a Spur’s quality of squad depth. Tottenham have a tough run of games coming up including Saturdays away to Southampton.

Southampton Team News:

Southampton have six players currently unavailable for selection, with five of these currently injured. Duricic is missing with his ankle while Gallagher has a bad knee. Jay Rodriguez is still out with his knee ligaments while goalkeeper Forster is out once again with his knee. Last of all we have Maluka out with a groin strain. Last of all is Wanyama who is currently serving a suspension after reaching a yellow card limit.

Tottenham Hotspur Team News:

Tottenham Hotspurs have the same two players missing for this game also, with number one goalkeeper Hugo Lloris still out with a knee issue. Kyle Walker once again is out injured, but this time it is the right backs ankle. Harry Kane continues to wow the world right now and last weekend scored his thirtieth goal of the season against Newcastle United.

Southampton v Tottenham Hotspur Head to Head Statistics:

Tottenham Hotspurs have been the better side in recent years and have dominated Southampton with five wins from five, including two away fixtures. The last time Southampton beat Tottenham Hotspurs was back in 2005 at home 1 – 0. In total we have 75 games played with the London club winning 35 to Southampton’s 23. Meaning we have also had 17 draws altogether.

Previous Average Goals Per Game Statistics

In the 75 games played between these two Premiership clubs we have seen a total of 224 goals scored, which is going to give us an average of 3 goals per game, which is a little hit and miss, so the below option is a more likely option I feel.

Southampton v Tottenham Hotspur Recent Form All Competitions (Left to Right)

Southampton: L W L W D

Tottenham Hotspur: W L D W L

In the last five games both teams are exactly equal in regards to form. It’s also very even all season although Southampton did spend most of the first half of the season in the top five. Although Southampton haven’t beaten Spurs in some time, they will still be favourites to win the game come Saturday due to the home advantage.

Southampton v Tottenham Hotspur Match Predictions, Tips & First Goal Scorer Bets.

Premiership action on Saturday will see Southampton play hosts and welcome Tottenham Hotspurs to St Mary’s Stadium. The win either way will put either team in a position of a chance at European football next season, and although some teams or fans really don’t care much for Europa League football, I certainly know both clubs involved here will cherish the chance of entering.

Both teams are equal when it comes down to looking at the form tables and statistics and we only see one point difference between the two clubs in the table. A win for with side and a loss for Liverpool against West Bromwich Albion will see them head up into 5th position and a closer step to Manchester City if they fall at home to Aston Villa, which of course is seen as very unlikely.

My predictions for this Premiership result will be backing both sides for the win in some form or the other. The first will be for both teams to score and Southampton to win the game after ninety minutes. The next I am going for will be Harry Kane to once again score a goal, and for his side to win the game. Which as we all can imagine has a great chance of coming in.
