Belgium v Greece Preview, World Cup 2018, Qualifier, Saturday 25th March 2017.

With four games already played it is home side Belgium who are top of the group with a maximum number of points. Could this all change on Saturday when they get to face Greece who are currently just two points behind in second place. Belgium’s last game at home ended with nine goals with a total of eight for the home side. Estonia didn’t come away with nothing however having scored the one as a consolation.

Belgium are the favourites to win this match as well as top the group, although it can only fall down to the likes of Greece or Bosnia-Herzegovina who can change that situation in my eyes. After this World Cup Qualifier Belgium do have a couple of friendly matches, and then get back to the qualifiers with fixtures against Estonia away from home, as well as Gibraltar at home.

As we all know Greece can be a good side on occasions and often do quite well in the major competitions even though they do often get written off. So far during this qualifying stages they are doing well with them currently in second position and just two points behind the leaders Belgium. In the last five games played Greece have won three and drawn the once, with the other a loss which was only a friendly game against Belarus.

If Greece can win this away fixture against Belgium then it would send them top of the table, although they would then also need to win their next game against another tough side Bosnia-Herzegovina who are also fighting for qualification. It’ll be homes games after that with Estonia and then Belgium which will not come until late this year in the summer.

Belgium Team News:

Roberto Martinez maybe without Manchester City star Kevin De Bruyne against Greece with the attacker suffering a groin strain during training. The manager is already without Eden Hazard who has a calf strain, as well as defender Thomas Meunier who picked up an ankle issue when playing for Paris st Germain.

Greece Team News:

Greece currently have a full squad coming into this game and manager Michael Skibbe will hope his side can continue with their fine form especially when it comes down to being in front of goal. Greece have currently scored nine goals in their opening four qualifying games, yet considered to Belgium’s twenty one it does seem meager.

Belgium v Greece Head to Head Statistics:

The two nations have played a total of seven times with Greece the better side with three victories. Belgium have won two which leaves the remaining two fixtures left as draws. Belgium are the better side right now and have been for a number of years and are considered the solid favourites to win come Saturday.

Previous Average Goals Per Game Statistics

In the seven games played out against each other there have been a total of fourteen goals scored. This is going to give us a goals per game average of two which has been seen three times in the last five fixtures. I’d be very inclined to go with the below selection for Saturdays game in Belgium.

Belgium v Greece Recent Form (Left to Right)

Belgium: W D W W W

Greece: D L W W W

Although Belgium are the far better team we must consider the away sides form here coming into this fixture. Both sides are in fine form and with Belgium missing a number of players could Greece very well surprise the hosts for Saturdays game? Who knows, but what I can say is Belgium are the slightly better team in form and the favourites to win.

Greece are serious outsiders to win this game even though they are in some fine form right now. I’d say they do have a chance against this Belgium side, considering they are without some key players. Belgium v Greece Match Predictions, Tips & First Goal Scorer Bets.

World Cup Qualifier action this Saturday brings us home side Belgium against Greece which can be viewed live via Sky Sports 2 High Definition. The Belgians are the bookmakers favourites to win the game which can be pretty much expected as they are an exceptional team. Although they do seem to come up a little short when it comes down to major competitions, and I’d expect more from a side with this much talent.

Belgium are the side who are top of the group and do have a maximum of twelve points from the four games currently played. That said Greece are also in fine form during this qualifying stages and have only dropped a couple of points which was against Bosnia-Herzegovina. With Belgium down a few major key players could we see Greece surprise the hosts and grab a win here?

I am doubting that result although I could see the two nations drawing once again, much like the last time they met back in 2012. That was however in Greece so who knows come Saturday evening. Greece have done very well so far winning three and drawing their last, and will come into this game full of confidence in hope of topping the group.

My predictions for this game do see the Belgians winning yet I do see the Greeks at least scoring a goal or two. So for my banker tip I am going to take both teams to score and for Belgium to win the match. My next prediction will be for a correct scoreline of 2 – 2. I just feel we could see plenty of goals and a very exciting match with end to end football.
