Peterborough United v Coventry City Preview, League One, Friday 25th March 2016.

Its international football week so meanwhile all on offer via Sky Sports is the tough battling League One sides. On Friday evening we have Peterborough United who are struggling this season with them currently in sixteenth position. Verses Coventry City who are fighting for the play-off positions in hope of promotion back into the Championships.

Home side Peterborough United ended their eight game run without a win on Saturday when they traveled to Doncaster Rovers and managed a 2 – 1 win against the relegation placed side. This Fridays game however is going to be extremely tough and of course are against the bookmakers odds of actually winning the game, even though they are at home.

Coventry City have also suffered mixed results recently and have only won once in their last five league games and of course only came away from home against Blackpool who themselves are possibly facing relegation unless things improve. Last Saturday we did see a goalless draw at home to Swindon Town and they are the bookmakers favourites to come away with three points Friday night.

Coventry City will really want to win this game and their next against bottom placed Colchester United as they then face three sides who are all fighting for promotion come the end of the season. However that said if they do manage to beat Wigan, Gillingham and Millwall then we could see Coventry City having caught up and place them in a good position for promotion.

Peterborough United Team News:

With it being international week we see that Posh have a total of five players missing from this encounter with Coventry City on Friday. Defenders Gabriel Zakuani is away with DR Congo and Michael Smith is with Northern Ireland. Kgosi Ntlhe is with the South Africa U23′ while Martin Samuelsen (Norway U21’s) and Harry Toffolo (England U20’s) are also missing. The only injured players for Posh is that of Jermaine Anderson and Joe Gormley who are both out for the remainder of the season.

Coventry City Team News:

Coventry City have a few players missing due to internationals ahead of this game against Peterborough United with defender Jack Stephens being one. The other two are forwards James Maddison and Adam Armstrong which leaves manager Tony Mowbray in a bit of a pickle. The manager has indicated he is hoping to dip into the loan transfer market and the U21’s ahead of this match due to a lack of options. As for injuries we have Chris Stokes (knee), Lee Burge (shoulder) and Reda Johnson (hamstring) all missing.

Peterborough United v Coventry City Head to Head Statistics:

In the last five head to head battles between these League One clubs we have seen Coventry City come out on top with four wins and the one loss. In total we only have the nine games played out with Peterborough United only winning on two occasions and just the one draw. Laving Coventry City to earn the spoils with six victories.

In the nine games played against each other we have seen a total of 29 goals scored. This is going to give us a goals per game average of 3.2 which we can see has been matched in three of the last five head to head encounters. For tomorrows game I feel the below option would be a good choice.

Coventry City: D W L L L

Although Coventry City are higher in the league they still haven’t been in the best of form lately with only the one win and draw to their name. Yet Peterborough United are far worse with them finally ending a run of eight games without a win.

Peterborough United v Coventry City Match Predictions, Tips & First Goal Scorer Bets.

League One action this Friday night witnesses struggling club Peterborough United verses play-off promotion battling side Coventry City who themselves recently haven’t been in the best of form. Peterborough United are at home for this game and just considered the slight favourites to win the match, although I personally cannot see it come the end of 90 minutes.

Although I say that we have seen Peterborough United finally end their eight game run of no wins with a victory over Doncaster Rovers who are currently occupying a relegation position. Could we finally see Posh move on from this in a positive manner or will they once again fall foul to another loss on Friday.

Coventry City also ended a recent run of bad form with a win over poor side Blackpool as well as a goalless draw against mid table side Swindon Town, another fixture in which they really should of won considering Coventry City were at home for the game. If they don’t win against Peterborough United and bottom side Colchester United next then they may as well his the play-off’s goodbye.

After these two easier fixtures we do see Coventry City face promotion fighting sides Millwall, Wigan Athletic and Gillingham who are all within a handful of points of each other and still in with a chance of winning the league outright. If Coventry City do manage to make it five wins out of five then they themselves could put themselves in with a serious chance of promotion come the end of the season.

My predictions for this game is leaning more towards to draw as both clubs have only just ended a poor run of form with recent wins. I feel for my banker bet it would be safer going with a normal draw, yet for this I am going to go with a score draw of some kind. The other I am going for is Coventry City to win the match and on top of that I am going to select them to do so by conceding zero goals on the night.
