Arsenal v Monaco Preview, Champions League, Wednesday 25th February 2015

Arsenal will head into this 1st Leg in confident mood as they only lost one game during the group stage and with a solid victory at the weekend away to Crystal Palace who have looked a much better side since the arrival of new manager Alan Pardew, the players and fans will expect to be the ones celebrating come the full time whistle on Wednesday night.

Monaco will also have some confidence though as they prepare for their visit to North London as they progressed through from their group as group winners and also only suffered just one defeat and like their hosts they will also head into this game on the back of a good victory over the weekend when beating Nice 1-0 away from home.

Arsenal Team News:

The visitors will be without Yannick Carrasco and Layvin Kurzawa for this game as both players are currently receiving treatment for respective injury problems. Dimitar Berbatov will be hoping his return to North London will be a happy one and he is likely to lead the attack up front alongside Valere Germain.

Monaco Team News:

The hosts will be without Aaron Ramsey, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, Mikel Arteta and Mathieu Debuchy as they all continue to receive treatment for respective injury problems. Danny Welbeck and Oliver Giroud look the likely two players to lead the attack up front on Wednesday night with Alexis Sanchez in support.

Arsenal v Monaco Head to Head Statistics

Wednesday night’s 1st Leg match from the Emirates Stadium will become only the 2nd meeting between the two clubs over the years which came back on the 3rd of August 2014 in the Emirates Cup and saw Monaco come out on top with a 1-0 victory.

Previous Average Goals Per Game Statistics

Only one goal has been scored in the only other match played between the two clubs over the years and this provides us with an average goals per game statistic of just 1.00 and suggests that this game on Wednesday night should not see more than a couple of goals scored.

Arsenal v Monaco Match Predictions, Tips & First Goal Scorer Bets.

Most people will expect Arsenal to get the job done here as if we take a closer look at the two squads, the hosts do have the better individuals and with home advantage where Arsenal very rarely lose in Europe, it does seem that Monaco have it all to do and their current best odds from the online bookmakers do seem to reflect this.

Monaco don’t currently have any of their players in the top 15 goalscorers of Ligue 1 and this statistic does seem to suggest that the visitors will struggle to find the net on Wednesday night.

However, Arsenal have Alexis Sanchez and Oliver Giroud in the top 15 goalscorers of the Premiership and with both players in very good form in front of goal recently, either of these two could prove a good investment on the anytime goalscorers betting market.

The average goals per game statistics are not expecting this match to see many goals, but this data is derived off just the one previous game having taken place between the two clubs and although I don’t expect that many goals, I do think we will see between at least two or three in what will be either a 2-0 or 2-1 win for Arsenal.

As such my Banker Prediction for this game is going to be for the match to see a total of 2 or 3 goals as I feel this is a safe option and good value with the current odds available.

My Saver is going to be for the Frenchman Oliver Giroud to continue his excellent strike rate in front of goal and score at anytime during the match.
