Stevenage v Everton Preview, FA Cup, Saturday 25th January 2014

Stevenage are having all kinds of problems this season in League One where they currently occupy bottom of the table, but this competition provides a welcome distraction from that and having drawn a home tie against Premiership rivals Everton in this 4th round match, they will at least have a chance to pull off what would be a huge major shock victory on saturday evening.

Everton are playing very well at the moment and are currently looking extremely good to qualify for Europe next season with their performances so far in the Premiership, but this competition does provide a way into Europe as well and with the club last having won a trophy back in 1995.

All Everton fans will be expecting their club to have this competition as one of their main targets this season and will be expecting them to win this game on saturday evening more comfortably than they did in their League Cup victory over Stevenage in extra time back on the 28th August last year.

Stevenage Team News:

Stevenage manager Graham Westley has no reported injuries or suspensions for this game, so expect him to choose his strongest lineup available for this game in an attempt to go one better than his side did back on the 28th of August last year when losing against Everton in the League Cup in Extra Time.

Everton Team News:

Antolin Alcaraz, Ross Barkley, Darron Gibson, Gerard Deulofeu and Arouna Kone are all unavailable for the visitors as they continue to receive treatment for respective injury problems. Seamus Coleman and Steven Pienaar both have slight strains and will under take a late fitness test, but both are expected to be passed fit to be involved.

Stevenage v Everton Head to Head Statistics:

Saturday evening’s game from the Lamex Stadium will become just the 2nd match between these two clubs over the years with the first game being won by Everton 2-1 in Extra Time of the Capital One Cup back on the 28th August 2013.

Previous Average Goals Per Game Statistics

The only previous other meeting between these two clubs saw 2 goals scored during the 90mins and 3 goals scored overall after Extra Time and with the pitch conditions likely to cause Everton some serious problems on saturday evening, it doesn’t look likely that this game will see many more than a couple of goals scored.

Stevenage v Everton Recent Form (Left to Right)

Stevenage: L W L W L

Everton : W D W W D

Everton have a clear advantage on the recent form statistics having won 3 and drawn 2 of their last 5 matches played. Stevenage have managed to win 2 of their previous 5 games played, but have lost the other 3.

Stevenage v Everton Match Betting Odds Market

Stevenage are not expected to win this game on saturday evening despite having home advantage and running Everton very close in their League Cup match back in August at Goodison Park Stadium where they only lost 2-1 after Extra Time as the online bookmakers odds of 11/1 with BetVictor (£25 Free Bets for New Customers) clearly indicate.

The Draw did happen on the only other previous meeting between these two clubs back in August last year and with the pitch obviously going to be a major obstacle for Everton, I can see this game having the possibility of being all tied after 90mins and at a current best price of 9/2 with Ladbrokes (£50 Free Bets for New Customers) I must admit to being tempted by this.

Everton are the clear odds on favourites to win this game with a very short price of 3/10 with Paddy Power (£50 Free Bets for New Customers) currently the best price on offer, but with the conditions very much in the favour of the hosts, these odds do not provide any value at all.

Stevenage v Everton Match Predictions, Tips & First Goal Scorer Bets.

On paper this should be a very comfortable victory for Everton on saturday evening at the Lamex Stadium, but this is the FA Cup where shocks and upsets happen each year this tournament is played and the Stevenage fans and players will certainly believe they can win this game and gain revenge for their defeat by Everton in the League Cup last August.

Everton do have a number of players missing this game through injury, but with being a Premiership club there is still plenty of talent available to manager Roberto Martinez and it would come as a huge shock to see the visitors lose this one.

No real previous goal stats to go on as the two clubs have only ever met each other once before and with Everton the clear odds on favourites to win this game at a very short price there is no value to be had there.

However, with Stevenage having managed to score against Everton at Goodison Park back in August and now having home advantage where they will be a lot more used to the conditions, I think the hosts can again get on the score-sheet during this game and make this hard work for Everton come saturday evening.
