Bournemouth v Liverpool Preview, FA Cup, Saturday 25th January 2014

Liverpool head into this round hoping not to slip up to their lower league opponents as history has it that in the past Liverpool had to rely on replays in both encounters back in 1927 and 1968. It took Liverpool to beat Bournemouth in a replay at their home ground Anfield. Last year this stage was as far as Brenden Rodgers got with his newly acquired Liverpool side and will be looking to progress to the later stages and not succumb to a giant killers upset.

Bournemouth have been playing reasonably well as of late with the exception of a defeat to Wigan Athletic, and in the last round of the FA Cup see off League Two outfit Burton Albion 4 – 1 at home. This doesn’t mean too much in regards to home form where the Cherries have only won twice in eight matches at home in all competitions, something Liverpool could well exploit unless the Championship side are on their best form.

Bournemouth Team News:

Bournemouth welcome goalkeeper Lee Camp for Saturdays game against Liverpool, the ex West Brom player signed for Bournemouth in the January transfer window and will no doubt strengthen Eddie Howe’s squad. Lee Camp is lucky to play in this fixture as when it was previously meant to be played the goalkeeper wasn’t yet on the books.

Liverpool Team News:

Liverpool have a few injury worries coming into this game with their defense taking a recent hit with the absent Glen Johnson joining Daniel Agger, Jose Enrique and Sakho. There is good news though as Liverpool’s young star Jon Flanagan returns to training after a hamstring injury but will not feature against Bournemouth. Long term injury worries is Lucas Leiva who has suffered a crucial knee ligament issue in their last game against Aston Villa.

Bournemouth v Liverpool Head to Head Statistics:

There is not much information available to show a head to head table although I do know that these two sides have met twice before in the FA Cup and Liverpool won both but after replays. Meaning that in the past the two previous games played at Bournemouth’s ground ended as draws and then two loses away at Anfield.

Previous Average Goals Per Game Statistics

In the 4 previous games we have seen a total of 12 goals scored which gives us an average of 4 goals per game. Liverpool have only scored once away from home here and have had to reply on the 8 goals scored at home in the replays.

Bournemouth v Liverpool Recent Form (Left to Right)

Bournemouth: D W L D D

Liverpool: D W W W L

Although Liverpool experienced a poor end to the year with defeats to Manchester City and Chelsea they have since picked up their form and got back to winning ways. Although their opponents haven’t been that strong that have still ground out some much needed results. Bournemouth are not having the best of seasons since their promotion and are sitting in 16th position and soon to fight the relegation battle that’ fast approaching.

Bournemouth v Liverpool Match Predictions, Tips & First Goal Scorer Bets.

Now although in the past we can see history has it that Liverpool have never won away from home against their opponents and also Bournemouth have never beaten Liverpool. Which isn’t that strange really seeing as both teams have always spent a lifetime apart in different divisions. Liverpool haven’t been at their best recently although they have won 3 and drawn another out of their last five matches. But lets look at their opponents which include Hull City and Oldham Athletic. We then also see them draw at home to Aston Villa after pulling back a 2 goal deficit.

But then we are talking about a Bournemouth side who are struggling in the Championships and will no doubt end up in a relegation battle come the end of the season. But lets remember, this is the FA Cup and every team has a good chance of beating anyone on their day. This will reflect in both of my predictions for this game. One being a score draw which has happened in the past and no doubt if it does happen Liverpool will turn up at Anfield and stroll through into the next round like history has shown previously.

The other I am going for is Daniel Sturridge to score and Liverpool to win, I cannot see Suarez starting for this game as Brenden Rodgers could rest him for the Everton game coming up next week and as Sturridge has only returned from injury recently this game could be a good work out for him to regain some match fitness.
