Southend United v Oxford United Preview, League Two, Monday 24th March 2014

It’s hard to believe that either side is so high up the league table right now with Southend United being used as an example here. The club are currently in eight position with only two points between them and Plymouth Argyle who occupy a play off position. Questions are  being asked however as the club haven’t won a game since mid January and thirteen league games have been played since then.

Oxford United are another team in extremely poor form having only won two games in their last ten in all competitions. They did manage to end a poor run of results with a home win against Hartlepool United which only came after Simon Walton see red after two yellow cards only for Connolly to break the deadlock and win the game 1 – 0 for Oxford.

Southend United v Oxford United Team News

Southend United Team News:

Southend United goalkeeper Daniel Bentley has so far played in every league game this season and will be hoping for a third clean sheet in a row come Monday evening. Southend have goals coming from all over the field right now which is always a bonus to any club looking to do well in the division, and so far ten alone have come from midfielder Kevan Hurst. We also see five from defender Leonard which is some great work from the twenty one year old.

Oxford United Team News:

Oxford’s goalkeeper is another stopper who has featured in all of the League Two games on offer this season but has recently been struggling to keep out the goals from on coming attackers. The clubs top scorer is twenty nine year old James Constable who has so far netted nine times in thirty six league matches. Close by is fellow striker Deane Smalley who has so far scored seven in twenty nine.

Southend United v Oxford United Match Predictions, Tips & First Goal Scorer Bets.

Monday night football has a great game on offer here with two sides who are challenging for the play off positions and haven’t been in the best of form the last couple of months. If Oxford United were at home their recent win and the advantage of being at home would clearly be in their corner as they look to finally win two on the bounce.

Southend United maybe favourites on Monday night for the win but we need to be realistic here and take note that they haven’t won a game since mid January which was against Chesterfield. Since then they have lost five and drawn an incredible nine which is the only reason why they have filtered around their current position.

My predictions for Mondays game is one for Oxford United to win with a 1 goal margin as I personally see Southend United continue their struggle for grabbing goals. The next is for a score draw which could well be possible considering both clubs recent form.
