Hull City v Brighton Preview, FA Cup, Monday February 24th 2014

Hull City will be brimming with confidence after their excellent 0-4 away victory against Cardiff City in the Premiership over the weekend and although manager Steve Bruce is likely to rest a few of his key players for this game, the team he decides to go with should still be good enough to carry on the momentum and win this game on monday night in front of their home fans at the Kingston Communications Stadium.

Brighton lost their Championship league match at the weekend 1-2 at home against Wigan Athletic, Jose Leonardo Ulloa scoring a late consolation for his side in that one late on in the match and that defeat is obviously going to have made an impact to the players confidence as they prepare for this game.

Hull City Team News:

The hosts will be without the services of Paul McShane, Joe Dudgeon and Robbie Brady for this game as each player continues to receive treatment for respective injury problems. There are also major doubts over Alex Bruce, Tom Huddlestone and Sone Aluko and these players will all undertake a late fitness test to see if they can be involved.

Brighton & Hove Albion Team News:

The visitors will be without Midfielder Andrew Crofts as he continues rehab for cruciate ligament dammage, but other than him manager Oscar Garcia has an otherwise full squad to choose from for this important 5th round replay on monday night.

Hull City v Brighton & Hove Albion Head to Head Statistics

Monday night’s game from the KC Stadium will become the 24th meeting between the two clubs over the years, of which Hull City have won 4 times (4 at the KC Stadium), Brighton have won 10 times (2 at the KC Stadium) and there has been 9 draws (5 at the KC Stadium).

The head to head table below shows neither club having had any real advantage in the previous 5 meetings with each having won a game each and the remaining 3 matches ending up all square. However an interesting statistic presents itself with only one of the previous 5 games having seen 2 or more goals scored.

17/02/14 FAC Brighton – Hull City

09/02/13 CHA Brighton – Hull City

18/08/12 CHA Hull City – Brighton 1 : 0
22/02/12 CHA Hull City – Brighton

Previous Average Goals Per Game Statistics

43 Goals have been scored in the previous 23 meetings between the two clubs over the years which provides us with an average overall goals per game statistic of 1.86. 16 Goals have been scored in the previous 11 of those matches played at the KC Stadium, which provides us with an average goals per game statistic of just 1.45.

Both average goals per game statistics suggest that this game on monday night is unlikely to see many goals scored with maybe just one or two hitting the back of the nets.

Hull City v Brighton Recent Form (Left to Right)

Hull City: D W L D W

Brighton: L W W D L

Both sides have managed to secure 2 victories from their last 5 matches played, but Hull City are the ones with a slight advantage heading into this game as they have managed to pick up 8pts compared to Brighton’s 7pts.

Hull City v Brighton Match Betting Odds Market

Hull City are the clear favourites to win this game on monday night at a current best price of 17/20 with BetVictor (£25 Free Bets for New Customers) which should not come as much of a surprise to anyone after their impressive 4-0 victory away to Cardiff City in the Premiership over the weekend.

The Draw has happened three times in the previous five meetings between the two clubs over the years and although the first attempt of finding a winner of this 5th round tie ended all square I really don’t think monday night’s game will and at a current best price of 13/5 with Bet365 (£200 Free Bonus Matched Bet for New Customers) it does not look likely to attract much interest in my honest opinion.

Brighton have it all to do here for me and with them losing at the weekend at home to Wigan Athletic the confidence of the players will have obviously taken a hit as a result and at a current best price of 4/1 with Stan James (£10 Free Bets for New Customers) it just doesn’t look big enough for me to even think about getting on as a saver.

Hull City v Brighton Match Predictions, Tips & First Goal Scorer Bets.

Steve Bruce could not of wished for a better result at the weekend as he watched his side thrash Cardiff City 4-0 away from home and a result like that just before a replay in the cup can only be of huge benefit to the club involved and for me I expect Hull City to continue where they left off against Cardiff City and win this game on monday night in comfortable fashion.

Brighton went down 1-2 at home to the 2012/13 FA Cup winners Wigan Athletic in their league match over the weekend and although they did manage to obtain a draw against Hull City in the first attempt of finding a winner from this 5th round tie, they are now away from home and although they have held their own on the road this season in the Championship, this looks an altogether much difficult proposition and if they are to have any real chance of causing an upset then they would have to have the games of their lifes.

The average goals per game statistics doesn’t expect this game to see much in the way of goals scored on monday night with maybe just one or two hitting the back of the nets, but with Hull City having smashed four goals past Cardiff City at the weekend and now having home advantage, I am expecting those statistics to come up short here as I am expecting this game to see at least three goals scored, with Hull City doing most of the scoring.
